October 14th I start recording my first CD in a local studio. I've had a brief discussion with the engineer about the fact that I need to practice with a click track / metronome between now and then.
What else should I do to prepare for studio recording?????

have a fresh set of strings on your guitar(s) and a set-up isn't a bad idea either. if you're singing too, work out all your harmonies ahead of time. engineers/producers generally appreciate a lyric sheet with at least the chord changes for each of the songs. do anything you can to be prepared (in the studio prepared = being efficient) nothing like paying $150 an hour to find our you're not ready! ;)
Have all your material down cold.

Play to a metronome like the guy suggested. To get things even tighter, you can get some multitrack software and practice recording and doubling your guitar parts to a metronome. That will reveal your inconsistencies immediately and let you concentrate on them. Probably the best way to learn your parts inside and out and go in ready to deliver.

I've got a home studio which I use for rough tracks (everything currently on my MySpace page). So I'm using that to practice holding position with guitar / working position with vocal and playing to the click.
You make a good point about practicing overdubing. After years of playing live I have trouble singing without playing (or visa versa for that matter). That's one of the big things I need to work on over the next month.
I recognize that my home studio tracks stink compared with a pro (and some real mastering). So I'm headed in to produce a comercial product!
