Will this simple recording idea work?

I tried a Boss GT8 and I did not like it. I was spending more time programing the thing than playing guitar. I have decided to give pedals and ampless recording a try. Do you guys think this will actually work?

It looks like you will need some kind of 1/4" to USB/Firewire interface to get this to work correctly. Cheap = M-Audio Jamlab. ~$30 at Musicians Friend.
