View Full Version : Voltage browning out?

I played a gig this weekend in a backyard and all the stage and PA gear was run off 1 or 2 lines from the house. While nothing blew up, my Line6 MM4 and DD4 both stopped working once the band kicked in. Also, my amp sounded very thin. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what was actually happening and if this situation could damage my amp. I'm playing a Dual Rec.
Thanks for any info.

Get a Kill-a-watt and actively monitor the line voltage while your band practices. You can also see how much current you guys are pulling in total with this meter.

Copper wire actually has some resistance. Extension cords can act like resistors, dropping voltage and heating up if loaded heavily.

Use bigger gauge cords and more of them.

Good point. How about taking a Kill-a-Watt and simply measuring the voltage seen at the extension cable ends at the next outdoor gig...make sure it looks correct. Quality extension cords are nice to have on hand...
