I've got an Allen old flame head, 2 6l6s, and find that the bass is just way too much on this amp, I don't turn the bass volume pot much past zero or else it'll overpower the amp with bass. Any ideas of what I should be looking for or changing to tailor the bass response of this amp?

I had one and like Fenders and Fender based amps I couldn't run the bass up much either. I usually ran it around 2-3. I just got to where I didn't worry about where the number was.

But, I did find at band practice and gigs where I could get away from the amp and walk out the full 18 or so feet from my board I could get away with more bass than I thought compared to standing right next to the amp.
I don't know anything about actual amp mods for it but I sure would think you should be able to run it up around 3.

Someone with actual knowledge will chime in I'm sure :)

I typically use a 100k pot for the Bass control on BF-type amps, rather than the stock 250k. It tops out at more than enough bass and allows more nuanced adjustment. I think that even a 50k pot could be adequate, though I've not tried that.

Sounds like you have something that has drifted in your Amp.
I use 2 Old Flames as my main Amps. I dont find them too "bassy" at all.
Check the value of the Bass Pot,
Check the Bass capacitor,
Check the 6L6 Tube Bias,
Check the Ohm of the speaker Cabinet your using.

Many Old Flames were sold as "kits" - I would recomend checking the schematic from David Allen, Then comparing that to your Old Flame Amp. I would imagine somebody could have easily confused something when putting it together. - A good tech could probably find out within a few minutes.

You can also change the value of the coupling cap going into the phase inverter. A smaller value will pass less lows.

What would be a good value for the coupling caps and where would they be located on the turret board?
