I bought it recently and it was shipped with the tubes (all JJ's) taken out of it. I assumed there would be some labeling, but there wasn't. So......I obviously knew where the EL-84's went because there was 4 of them, and I knew where the rectifier went because it's the biggest, AND I knew where the EF-86 went because it was seperate and by itself. BUT, the 12AX7's weren't labeled, so I wasn't sure which socket was V1, nor did I know which tube was for V1, so, I did a guessing game and just put them in ranfomly.

First off, is this dangerous, or would it just cause phase issues? The normal channel sounds awesome, and I knew the boost channel would be brighter, hence "Top-Boost", but, it sounds weird, like it may be out of phase. It's definitely bright, but sounds like it has crossover distortion. What should I do? Order three new 12AX7's from Eurotubes, labeled correctly, not play again until they get here, then reinstall? Would it be fine to just use the normal channel 'til they got here? Please help.....

You need to tell us the topology of this amp and how many tubes it has.You may have a bad or microphonic 12AX7 that's causing your problems. The rectifier is obviuosly an octal tube and the EL84's are 9 pin like the preamp tubes. The EF86 is also 9 pin.
Did you try and contact hayseed first? He knows his amps and should be able to help you.

A 12AX7 is a 12AX7 and can go in any position unless he matches them for the phase inverter, but that is highly unlikely.

IIRC V1 is generally furthest from power tubes.

Send Rob an email and ask him. He's a great guy who I'm sure will answer any questions you have.

There's 1 Rectifier, 4 EL-84's, 3 12AX7's, and 1 EF-86. None of the tubes were labeled, so, if there WAS a 12AX7 delegated for the V1 slot, I wouldn't know it because none of the tubes were labeled. Last time I ordered preamp tubes, two were unlabeled, and one was labeled V1 so I knew which one went in that slot.
