Static through my Hayseed: a plea

Well, maybe not so much a plea, but a request to help steer me in the right direction. I seem to be getting a static kind of sound through my hayseed 30, but only on the lo input of the top boost channel--the hi input is just fine. It seems to come and go, but is definitely more pronounced when I play lower notes. It's also not omnipresent--it only surfaces when a note is played. I've swapped cables, guitars, a couple of preamp tubes, tightened chasis screws, but the noise is still there. It's not overbearing, but it's one of those things that will slowly drive me crazy. Any ideas of what kind of issue I'm looking at here? Much thanks in advance!

What happens when you plug a shorted dummy plug into the high input? If you have Switchcraft shorting jacks for the inputs, it could be that the high jack is not shorting to ground solidly when nothing is plugged in.
