Hey I've been looking for a more biting/vintage type fuzz and the MK II caught my attention, but before I pull the trigger on one I've got a few questions for you all. All the websites I've seen talk about how Page and Beck used them, but do not name many songs. I know Page used one extensively and can hear it on heartbreaker and other tracks but what about tracks like Traveling Riversige Blues (the solo) where he gets that nice midrangey tone with just enough bite. And I know Beck used one earlier in his career, but what about on Albums like Beck-ola, jail house rock for example. Those of you who own some sort of MKII copy do you use it for rhythm at all or only leads? I appreciate your advice, and if it sounds like I'm looking for an MKII what do you all think about the Throbak Stonebender (D*A*M is a little rich for my blood). Thanks!

at first I used my soulbender only for high-energy midrangey rhythm sounds, but its grown on me a lot for leads and riffing.... solo tones like Page's "achilles last stand" solo and "ten years gone" solo are great with the soulbender. Just remember, the gain knob is pretty much useless on pedals like this.... just set it at full and control the gain w/ your volume knob.

I just built the BYOC MKII clone. Not much, easy to wire, and it smokes the MJM BritBender that I just sold (and that was an awesome pedal in it's own right)

The Throbak is an excellent MK-II clone with some additional features.

Best examples of Page would be the 1st Zep album, and on the DVD box set, the Royal Albert Hall stuff as well as the clips from French TV, '69...also the early material on the BBC album.

I believe Beck-Ola is a 3-knob Bender and that's a different sound than the two-knobber.

+1 on the BYOC

Thanks for the advice! Sorry I didn't elaborate in the op but I'm looking for responses more like Carly's and re-animators, need to firgure out if I want one before we get intro brands.
P.S. Carly had any personal experience with the Throbak? does the switch on it really make it sound like a three knob in addition to the 2 knob because if I could get a nice page AND beck sound out of one pedal then it sounds like a tonebender clone is just what I'm looking for.

I own the Throbak. The switch knocks some highs off, but it doesn't sound like a 3-knobber, IMO, but it's a useful feature.
