So whats so cool with pete cornish, is it that he was the first serious guitar rigger or is it that he is really good?

Check out Gilmours rig on PULSE on the new DVD - all effects systems are done by Pete Cornish.

I have three of his pedals and they are pretty awesome - all capable of high gain but very silent, notes very clear and smooth.

If your looking at one of his pedals the only way to judge is sadly to try one out which of course is difficult

I recently aquired a used SS2 and G2. My opinion is that he is that good. These pedals sound like no others I've heard (yet). They are very amplike and warm, and they sound great together as well. The SS2 can nail that light to medium OD sound on Shine On and the G2 can be heard all over the new Gilmour CD.

I totally agree, especially the G2 very unique to my ears. It has a certain
kick to it that I love for leads, in fact I prefer it over my Cornish muff!!!!!!!

Cornish pedal and a hint of delay = heaven!!!!!

I was in need of very urgent cash recently and put mine all up for sale - luckily I got a second job!! I played thru them this afternoon and I was "what the hell was I thinking"!!!!

Do you use the Tube Driver much or SS2? (maybe you use them differently)??

I see you also have a compulator - I have been meaning to try one to see if it will replace my CS2

Yeah, I use it for higher gain stuff some times. I like the SS2 better for low-med gain stuff though. I'm always swapping in/out other pedals too - Eternity, Timmy, etc. Right now, I can justify keeping a few extra OD's as they all do something slightly different/better.

The compulator is a very nice compressor - my only gripe is that it adds some high end that I wish at times I could dial out. I'd probably try the Diamond if I had to choose again. Maybe someday I'll trade for one. :jo

Yep I have the same feeling - over at the Gilmour gear forum several people are building Cornish boards and have been asking Pete tons of tech questions and analysing the photos etc

people are forgetting he also did those minor-guitar-gods like Brian May and Pete Townshend.

Basically the "deal" with Pete Cornish is that he's pretty much the best there is at what he does - and he knows it.

I received an e-mail from Pete Cornish about two weeks ago stating that he had just finished a VERY small run of SS-3 pedals and that my name was on top of his contact list. (I seem to remember saying I was interested in one a VERY long time ago) It was a lot of money but I took the "plunge" and sent the funds via PayPal. I was more than impressed to see it show up at my doorstep two days later!
In a nutshell, the SS-3 is without a doubt the most incredible sounding, dynamic, and harmonically rich low to medium gain OD pedal I have ever had the pleasure of playing through. KILLER, KILLER neck and bridge lead tones with my Heritage H-150CM loaded with Wolfetone Dr Vintage pups. One of the only OD pedals I have played that sounds GREAT on both the neck and bridge positions without changing the pedal settings. NOT a voicing I have ever heard before in any pedal I have played to date. Very unique, but very, very cool. Incredible low end retention!
I currently have some other pedals that I like VERY much as well, (Jetter GSR, Jetter GSBlue, Ulbrick 12AXE) but if I was to be stranded on a desert island tomorrow, I would hope the SS-3 would be the one to come with me.

EXPENSIVE, but man what a pedal!

:)

Another great Gilmour forum is Gilmourish.com.It gives breakdowns of what gear is used for each album and songs, pedal settings etc.I was on alot before TGP.A super resource for all things Gilmour.

Yeah Gilmourish is the best website for Gilmour nerds - however the Gilmour gear forum is a proper forum to discuss etc - Bjorn the man behind the great Gilmourish is also a regular member

With that in mind I think the coolest thing about Pete Cornish is just how down to Earth he really is (or seems to be). I ordered direct from Pete once and he was kind, helpful and genuinely valued my business.

IMHO a lot of builders could learn a thing or two (or three) from Mr Cornish...
