Hi,

I just received a guitar and am not real please in the description vs. the actual condition. I quote from the actual listing:I would rate the overall condition a solid 9.7 There are a couple of pin head size pings here and there but you have to look really close to see them. Your bassplayer would say the guitar is mint. Protecting the beautiful maple top is a clear plastic pickguard that simply "clings" to the surface. The top section of the locking tuners have a split top. You tighten it to lock the string down. One of the top sections has a side missing but finger tightening and regular string installation works fine.
So bassists, please tell me, is this guitar mint? It's rated at a 9.7. The "pin holes" that he describes are no less than 5 BB sized chips/dings to the wood, the back plate is so worn, I'm not even sure what color it was originally(black?), some deep rash not to the wood, and the entire guitar is covered in pick scratches/swirl marks. I realize this is an older guitar but when I see 9.7 and my bass player would say mint, I guess I expected more. What do you guys think? Am I too picky or do I have an legitimate beef?

9.7? Personally that is not 9.7 to me... shoot to me 9 is pretty dang great maybe some light scratching, LIGHT!!! however, those Chicago Washburns are fairly nice so depending on the price you paid, might be ok... oh and as far as me looking at guitar from the Bass players spot on stage yea sure it looks great? whaaaaat? who gives a crap about that honestly? looks great from several feet away? I have never understood people who use that as a selling point...

I don't understand why a bass player would think it's mint.

Yeah... I'm a bass player and I would rate that a 7 at best. Probably not even that high. But the only thing that matters is that if you think he misrepresented it, you should contact him and pursue some kind of resolution that will make you happy. Fortunately Ebay usually sides with buyers, so they may come to your aid if you seek it from them.

9.7?!? - That is an insult to bass players. I hope that the rest of the guitar looks OK, and, most importantly, plays well. I would try to get some $ back, as claiming a 9.7 is horribly misleading.

Cheers,

Edward

9.7???

I see 9.7 out of 12 but NOT 9.7 out of 10. If you paid a premium for 9.7 out of 10 condition, you have a legitimate complaint!

not even close to 9.7. standards aren't different for bass players, either.

Nowhere near mint.

That's not mint. Beat it up some, call it "reliced" and sell it for twice what you paid for it...

:BEER

Only way a bass player calls it mint is if he's standing a ways away from it and really likes the sound.

those would accurately be called "chips" if he wanted to be honest. i had a strat with what i might call "pings". a few slight paint imperfection areas in the poly where it's like a reverse bubble, about the size of a pinhead. what you have are definitely chips in the finish. many on ebay to be more accurate i.e. surface scratch, not through paint to wood. here's the key..did he say that the item was being sold "as is"? if he didn't, you have a good shot to get some money back if that's what you want to do. if he said "as is", it's stated in ebay's dispute guidelines that you have zero claim. (having been through this with very much an "item not in condition as described" japanese strat i purchased on ebay. a chunk of paint to the wood literally fell off when i took it out of the cardboard package (no damage to package so it was hanging there in the first place and was about 2 inches by 4 inches) the neck which was said to play perfect, had dead worn out frets from 10th to 15th, the wiring was all misconnected and the "new" pickguard had a soldering iron burn in it. i filed a claim..as soon as he said it was sold "as is", i lost the claim opportunity.

It's not mint, but the real question is are you happy with the guitar. If you are there shouldn't be an issue. If not, contact the seller and see if they will take it back. Only if they refuse to take the guitar back does the question of the accuracy of the listing come into play.

Hi.If it's just a few dings & nicks as a bass player i would give it a 9.
The most important thing is on a scale 1 to 10 what does it SOUND
like?Is it comfortabele? Can you feel that thing you should when you
are playing it & listening to it??
