are they the same size?

could a guitar with a P90 have it replaced with a mini hum without any modding?

specifically thinking of an ASAT here...

The Les Paul Deluxe style mounting ring for a minihumbucker is made from a non-dog-eared soapbar cover. So in theory a mini-humbucker with mounting ring should drop into a soapbar route. Into the route though, not over it, so the ring would probably be flush with the body or even buried in the body which could look a litte funny and it might be difficult or impossible to raise the pickup high enough to the strings.
But of coarse there are always shims!

ahh thats good news.

so really its a case of mounting it in there nicely?

i just didnt want to find myself chopping away at wood. (and being able to use the same pickguard would be handy too)

ill probably go for an ASAT classic. and swap out the neck pup for a P90 (or mini hum)...

thanks :)

Not sure if the G&L soaps are the exact size as standard soaps. I'd look into that before you buy.

i dont think they even offer soaps do they?

ill probably go for a custom classic. may as well try that big MFD before routing it for P90/minihum

Depends.

If your guitar has soapbars in it, you can mount mini-hums without modifications, but you will need a special mounting ring.

If your guitar has mini-hums and is NOT a Les Paul Deluxe, you can't put soapbars in it without modifying the guitar.

Further, if your guitar has mini-hums and you want to install Anderson mini-hums, you have to mod it slightly - as I learned last night when I tried to do just that :)

Didn't stop me, though!

Hey Chiba, which guitar did you put the Anderson minis in? How do you like them? I've got a set coming for my Anderson Hollow T Classic in an attempt to make it fatter and hum-cancelling, two M1s and a TM2 which fits in the stock bridge rout. Love to hear your take on these!-Eric
