I want to pick up a good distortion/fuzz, compression, and chorus pedal. Any suggestions? I've been looking at:

Distortion: Electro-Harmonix Big Muff, "Juggernaut" Bass Rat, T-Rex Bass Juice

Compression: T-Rex Squeezer

I can't help with distortion. I haven't found a place to use it yet.

I just got my Boss CE-2 back from Keeley. I had them do their standard "HiFi" mod and they also went above and beyond as I told them I wanted to use the same pedal for guitar and bass. They added a seperate circuit for a capacitor that would work for bass along with a toggle switch to change between the guitar circuit and the bass circuit. They included a selection of five extra caps (the socket uses plug-in caps) to experiment with in case they missed on their first guess (no bass in the shop). It came sounding perfect out of the box.Of course, you have to hunt down your own CE-2!

I haven't experimented with compressors yet but I'll be watching the thread.

I really dig my fulltone bassdrive alot!

For the price the digitech bad monkey is really good for overdrive.....best $35 ive spent on bass distortion!

I have used a big muff fuzz to good effect on my bass...when I want that Hugh Hopper sound...*sigh*....I also have that Digitech Bass Distortion pedal, whcih does all sorts of nasty things, but I haven't used it in awhile...

the best bass distortion sound I used to get was an old American Metal pedal through an old MXR envelope filter....big fat round bass balls of distortion...am metal pedal died along time ago, MXR is now worth a frickin fortune...

I also have a Monkey, which I loaned to a guitar player, nice pedal.

I just got the Boss Legend pedals; the '59 Bassman and the '65 Vibrolux. Very convincing tube crunch. I don't go in for heavy distortion, but these provide two flavors of edge to help add some weight and bite under a bunch of guitars. You can crank the gain and get them to distort pleasingly, but I like to just add that grit to help cut through. You can play them at any Sam Ash or Guitar Center and judge for yourself. They're about $150 to $165 a piece.

jkrieger52, thanks for the tip on the '59 Bassman. I played one at guitar center and it was really awesome. Ive been leaning towards a Big Muff, but the fuzz was too drastic for me, so i would have to limit its use. Does the Bassman do well almost as a pre-amp (having it switched on all of the time.), or would you say it compliments your sound every now and then but would get old if always turned on?

The Big Muff always sounds too fuzzy for bass, in my opinion - the apparent volume drops drastically. I'd suggest the ZVex Woolly Mammoth for heavy distortion, or the Devi Ever TP for an aggressive crunch.

have you tried the mxr blowtorch?
can do all kinds of sounds from a gentle crunch to a full on fuzz.
i found that the mxr distortion 3 and the EHX pocket metal muff do pretty well on bass as well
i also use an old Boss HM2 for full on fuzz since it has no bass loss at all and in fact can give a nice boost too!
