Been playing since I was 7. Am now 47. I don't play professionally because I never wanted to go into the music business. I don't have the the need for attention or fame and its a shitty business.
Have owned several guitars over the years including an original Gibson Firebird with just the one pup in it back in 1969.
Took lessons from the age of 7 to 12 - after that I picked everything up from various sources.
I can play anything from metal to country but I prefer to shred simply because was born with the gift of being able to play extremely fast. Not your typical shredder though by any means. I slow down a lot these days and mix in tons of phrasing and vibrato.
Most of what I play these days is when jamming with others. I have them play whatever and I jam to it. Just never been big on covers. I don't want to sound like other people.
When I play I tend to mix different scales - during a lead for example I will use major/minor, harmonic minor, major/minor blues, pentatonic, diminished and chromatic all in one solo usually.
Equipment - have gone through a lot. Currently I have a Framus Cobra amp that I like a lot (once you tweak it).
Current guitars are Jackson PC1, Charvel San Dimas (1983 I think), Hamer Vector and Jackson Custom Reverse Body Style Demon (hand made neck and the most killer guitar I have ever found).
Typically I turn the gain up just enough to get singing sustain yet maintain dynamics and that organic sound. The only effect I use is a TC Electronics M3000 Reverb unit.
my space page is under www.myspace.com/shredmonster_z
Other equipment forums I visit include: Fender, Jemsite, Jackson Charvel, Hamer, HugeRacks Inc, Dean, Moser, DinosaurRockGuitar, JeffRocks (EVH type forum), Suhr, Axehouse Consortium and Shredguitars.com
Favorite guitar books: The Complete Guitarist and Sheets of Sound.
