View Full Version : Is there something wrong with my Biasrite?

Checked the bias on some KT88s in my 2204 last night and my biasrite was reading really weird. One side read 66ma but the other read -00.7. Checked it a few times but one side kept reading in the negative.
I pulled the tubes and put in a couple of 34s and the biasrite readings were 20ma apart. I know the tubes are within 5ma of each other. The side that read low was also the side showing the negative reading with the 88s.
Anybody know what could be the issue? I've only used the biasrite a handful of times and it's only about a year old.
BTW, the amps plays and sounds fine so I don't think it's the issue.

I've heard reports of some BR's being flakey. Did you try switching sockets with the BR heads? Try switching tubes in the heads?
Good mechanical connections with sockets and tube pins are likely the problem. Try wiggling things around a bit and see if the numbers fall in line.
Mine had crazy readings for plate voltage. Only on the octal sockets. RMA back to Weber. They will fix it. Kind of slow in getting back to me because of their move, so I've heard.

It might be a good idea to check the plate voltage with a multimeter and compare that reading to what you get on the biasrite. Keep that multimeter around to check the biasrite on occasion. Use it like a test weight for a scale.

Change the battery.

I do check with multimeter. And of course the battery was checked. The bias rite had a funny issue where if you squeezed it like a sandwich, it would give you the right voltage. Otherwise, it would just give you crazy readings up and down. I think it has something to do with the pcb board. Still waiting to get it back from Weber...

Mine Bias rite has been flawless, but I still double check the plate voltage with my Fluke true RMS meter just to be safe.....
