View Full Version : Gretsch with Fender scale?

I like really like the appearance and vibe of a Gretsch (especially those with Dynasonic pickups), but I was never fond of the shorter scale compared to a Tele/Strat. Tried heavier strings, but that didn't have the same impact either, it simply misses some twang and sparkle (already when playing unplugged).

Is there any builder doing Gretsch style guitars with the Fender scale?

Thanks! ;)

How about a Gretsch? Some models, White Falcon and Tennessee Rose for example, have Fender Scale.

Uh, didn't know - thanks :) Is there one with Dynasonics and Bigsby, too? Just saw the White Falcon with DS but no Bigsby... Would it be easy to install afterwards?

They do look superb :dude Hard to say which colour I'd prefer... Will a Bigsby fit in the holes of the stoptail or would I have to drill some new ones?

I remember a friend of mine noticed a difference in string spacing compared to a Tele. Never bothered me too much, but while I'm at it - is there a way around that, too?

I think most current Gretsches have a 1 11/16" nut width which is the same as most modern Teles. A vintage spec'd Tele may have a 1 5/8" nut width which is narrower. Bridge spacing on the Gretsches (to my knowledge) is similar to that of a Fender as well (I don't know the measurements offhand) so it shouldn't be a major difference. The only Gretsch model that I know of with a wider neck is the 6122-1959 which has a 1 3/4" nut width; also has the 25.5" scale length as well (definitely HIGH up on my "must have" guitar list). Someone else here may be able to give more specific string spacing measurements though so hopefully they'll chime in.
