The particle board baffle in my '70 SFSR has given up the ghost - so I'm making a new one. I've removed the original one and found that the holes aren't circular (they have a flattened oval shape) - but that isn't the problem. From the back of the amp - and it isn't apparent until you take the baffle out - the top left speaker is offset to the right by an inch and I don't know why. The transformers are on the other side so it isn't to accommodate those - does anyone have an idea?

Also - why are the speaker holes that peculiar shape - I guess it's to maximise the stud space between the speakers and to keep the strength in the whole baffle but it looks a little odd.

Is this the same on a BF SR?

Oh - and mine's not a later SF master vol amp where the top 2 and bottom 2 speakers are offset

cheers

...offset is for clearance between speaker frame and OT transformer.

I thought those were on the other side.....and I checked!!

...when viewed from back the PT is far left with the OT just left of middle, which typically "interferes" with the top left (again viewed from rear) speaker.

...which begs the question: did someone install the speaker board backwards?

No - don't think so. I have it figured out now and will just cut circular holes (not the oval ones) with the centres the same as on the original baffle.

thanks for the help OTM!
