Hi all,
I have a 64 Vibroverb clone that's period correct (circuit wise) except this clone has a (Twin Reverb sized) Mercury Magnetics transformer. Has Ruby power tubes now but I'm wanting to go NOS. As it is, this amp is awesome but I've been around long enough to know that some vintage 6L6 glass would most likely make it even better.:AOK What do you Vibroverb owners suggest I use? Preamp section is all NOS throughout and sounding excellent!!!

Your looking for Phillips STR 387's. These are what Mr Stevie R Vaughn used. They are Tall Bottle 6L6's with top dual getters. They have the smoothest breakup of any 6L6 Tube. Lots of Clean headroom, Big Tone! - Perfect for a Vibroclone!
They are scarce and very expensive. But absolutly worth it!!!!

do 7581's have more current draw than a 6l6gc?

Heater current? No.
Idle current would depend on how you bias them.

I'm in a similar position with a 64 Vibroverb with no tubes - what do people recommend for the remaining tubes for the AB763?
It needs
1 x GZ34
2 x 12AT7
1 x 12AX7
3 x 7025
cheers

12AT7s are easy: Mullard CV4024s. Great sounding and likely the last 12AT7s you'll ever need.
GZ34: JJ or NOS JAN Philips or Ge (the NOS tubes last 30 years on average).
7025/12AX7: Any good 12AX7 will do. Tung Sol Reissues, NOS RCAs, GEs, etc

You may want to save some $$ and try the new Tung Sol 6L6 STR's. They sound great in my '64 Vibrolux Reverb. I have all NOS pre amp tubes in it and these 6L6's sound better to me than my NOS Sylvania's.

Hum, the price is sure rite.
I wonder how long these will hold up compaired to the NOS tubes though?

On average, probably about 1/5th as long. Considering the price difference you're probably right on target either way.

I can vouch for the Tung Sol RI 12AX7s. Got 'em in my Top Hat SD212 and it sounds wonderful.
If you can find some, NOS GE's. If not, some Winged C's.
