I have a 70's strat that has the original Kluson(?) tuners on it.. I really like the guitar (it sounds quite good and plays very well), but the tuners have become difficult to work.. they don't turn easily and are very difficult to adjust for accurate pitch (i.e. the are way not smooth)..
I'ld like to replace them, but with tuners that are exact fits... I've seen the tonepro/klusons.... Do they have a set that are exact replacements? Any other recommendations (keeping in mind I don't want to modifiy the guitar in any way)
thanks much for any advice.

If you mean the F backed ones they are Schaller made and reissue replacements are available from fender (also made by Schaller).

I didn't know they were Schaller(not that it makes any difference).. . They do say F on the back..

Are there other tuners (besides the Fender branded ones) that are direct replacements for a mid 70's strat? I'm just exploring whats out there..any guitar techs know?

No is the answer and I'm a guitar tech.
Schaller make some with an S on the back but they don't quite fit anything.

really? that's good to know, and awfully stupid on schaller's part, 'cause what the hell else are they supposed to fit on?
