I had these in a box and I have no idea what they are. It looks to me like these once were in the neck and middle positions of a guitar. Some of the wiring leads to a nine-volt battery pad.

On the back of each pickup are two stickers. Each says "CAA" and "IE."

does anyone know what they are?

I would guess SAs. I think the S pickup has a silver logo and the SA has the gold logo.

They're definitely SAs. And if you send the pics to Rick Hunt at EMG, he'll tell when they were made based on the code on the undersides. Very helpful guy.

They could also be SAVs... I have a set and they have the gold logo.

Can't be SAVs without exposed polepieces, surely..?

Hmmm... I guess you're right, I didn't realize they called the pups that come in the Steve Lukather set "SLV"S.

I haven't heard SLVs. How do they sound compared to SAs?

They are the most raw sounding of the EMG single coils...
Overwound style.. sort of like Fender Texas specials ...

More mid-range, less treble. They're just a little "hotter". They still retain a lot of the sparkle though. I love my SL pro set.

How long have they made those other models? And when did EMG start using that little 3-prong connector? I assumed those p'ups in the op were quite a few years old just because they don't have the little connector.

Hi Martin;
They're EMG-SA's, and were made in 1995.
Thanks,
Rick
