Here are some alternate versions of the same take but using different amp settings (software):

"Marshallish", low gain: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6278559
"Voxish": http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6278571
Cleaner: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6278581
Higher gain: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6278595

So, who will be the first to say "they all sound like crap" or "you can't polish a turd" ? :)

That's more like it :dude Now just give me, say, 10 years and I'll get back to you (maybe). I'm only just trying to break out of the "blues box" and get my fingers to play more than 2 notes per second. Never been much of a lead player, but being on this forum has inspired me to take some first steps. Must say though, there's a fine line between inspiring and downright depressing ;) I'll keep trying though...

Did 4 back to back takes

I like take 2 & 3, lemme know which one

Sorry for dorking off too much, particularly with the bad imitation of Jerry Broganzi stuff on the breakdown

Take 1 (http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6297975)

Take 2 (http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6295605)
(didn't finish off to strong on this one, so I faded it out)

Take 3 (http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6295607)

Take 4 (http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6295613)

It peaks and cracks at a couple points. Forgot to check the levels, sorry

Any input of any kind is appreciated

Man, Apeman, VERY nice pocket phrasing and tone (just checked the first one) (was that tone form the software ?)

Ghisi, love those slippery lines and KILLER legato style. Scof would be proud (he needs your amp - lol)

Frank A, killer as always. Love the carltonesque tone. Nice bluesion. Like tha one really high gear lick - reminded me of Bolin

Love the the r&B jazz influence

Really tasty phrasing

Is that a strat?

I'm having trouble hearing what kind of axe that is

Alnico II's or fat ass single coils?

It's funny how the IImi and V7 altered sneak up isn't it ?

All your lines groove like crazy

Way to dig in.

thanks man! that ii V is fun! didn't always catch it but oh well...
actually, i think it's a ii IV...

that's the strat that's broken my heart. it's a '61 3 tone hardtail, 100% original. (IMO anyone who says hardtails don't sound as good as trems are crazy!) my dad's cousin got it new as a bar mitzvah gift!! not too much play on it at all. a real life closet classic. after 10 years on extended loan, it's time to give it back. painful. honestly, i feel like crying every time i think about giving her back.

I think there was good stuff in all of the takes :) I dug the rockabilly/jazz vibe (reminded me a bit of Danny Gatton or maybe Brian Setzer) and all-out jazzy runs and turnarounds.

I also really like your tone, although personally I would maybe prefer a bit less room in the sound. You're using a Strat->OD Pedal (Blues Devil ?)->Marshall clone setup, right ? That's pretty much what I'm aspiring to in terms of gear, only I've yet to make a decision on what amp to get.

Man, Apeman, VERY nice pocket phrasing and tone (just checked the first one) (was that tone form the software ?)

Thanks :) The tone was from software, I was using the "Bluesbreaker" simulation in ReValver II (demo version). I'm not 100% happy with the tone, would have preferred a more organic / less "tin can" sound but didn't have time to tweak too much. I actually had a better sound going at first but lost the settings due to the software crashing (can't save presets in the demo version). I'm definitely going to get a license for ReValver III once it's released.

Ah tone........ It be a nice little amp the Skrydstrup. Glad you liked it.

I was running it through the Koch load box at 40% to try and keep a head on the volume. Loses a little top end and openness but it keeps the old ear drums more intact and the miss's sweeter.

Timing - oh yes them grems are in there. Leap out at me - but then I'm Hypo sensitive about it nowadays.

(Thanks for your comments Althrax, yZe, jzilla & Pinner :))

Hum, actually that's one of the things I really liked about some of your takes - the explosive firey picked runs in places. I tend to underplay too much me-self and lose that spark.

Glad you liked the tone - been recording with the Skrydstrup a lot lately and I've fallen in love with the old flame all over again.

(Good to see take 1 back up. ;))

Thanks Geoff!! Honor to be in the same sentence as ghisi! That one lick is a Lerner rip off. I look at it as playing a maj7 arpeggio (starting on the maj7th) off the maj 2nd from the minor chord being played (hence really a minor 9th arpeggio 2nd,min 3rd,5th,minor7th) Then going up major 3rds for that hip sound. Also go up in tritones at times. Hope this make sense:messedup.
Amp is a Fuchs ODS bassman mod into Glaswerks 1x12xl w/ 12-65. Don't like the recorded tone on this one. Sounds great live though:crazy.

Tag,

I've only used the pre amp boost a couple of times with my tele clips. But the You Tube clips (on my website from the LA amp show) it's on all of the time. But that was the D'Lite Bluesmaster. Mine is a stock 22.
You've really got a nice thing going w/the two-rock and your tele.
What pu's are you using?

Hey Chuck,

Its the stock Fender US standard pups, whatever they are. The Tele is chamberd, and you can hear that at times. I love chambered and semi hollow guitars, and love Strats that have the hated swimming pool routing, because they give a more resonant tone IMO.

Is your amp an HRM? I was listening to your take on this, and when I do not have the boost engaged, the tone was extremely similar to what I am hearing in your amp. With single coils, the boost really smooths the tones and makes the amp sing. With Humbuckers, I do not use the boost most of the time. Also the mid switch can sound great with single coils I think.

Cool playing and tones Marin. It sounds like you are bonding with that amp!
:BEER

Thanks Tag. Your Telecaster tones are just wonderful.

Actually, the Tele works best on my Ceriatone too. I get the impression that HAD designed his amp for cheap, bright pickups. He then adds the low mids through the amp, hence you have a full dynamic range.

My previous amp was very bright so I had changed all my pickups to match it and they're too dark to work with the Ceriatone (except the Telecaster).

I now understand how a JB pickup can sounds smooth. ;)

Got through a few of the cool takes here, will get the rest when I get home from work tommorow....had shut down the gear for tonight....then I got the urge to give this one another shot...
Went for a slight uncomfy feeling....even got myself to tense up some...lol

Some nice chops and tone in there. If you don't mind me asking, what amp is that?

Hey Chuck,

Is your amp an HRM? I was listening to your take on this, and when I do not have the boost engaged, the tone was extremely similar to what I am hearing in your amp. With single coils, the boost really smooths the tones and makes the amp sing. With Humbuckers, I do not use the boost most of the time. Also the mid switch can sound great with single coils I think.

Tag,

Not an HRM and no mid boost, just the pab. Pretty basic. Ask Scott what I have...LOL I don't know much tech about these d-style amps other than the cleans are killer and they love tele's in the OD dpt. I really like the tones you are getting from your TR!
I had never even heard of any of these amps other than a real Dumble until I started hanging out here and met Scott.

Marin, sounds like you're in the same boat. Cool tones from your amp and tele!

I was just messing around this afternoon... Here is a quick take with the Glaswerks, G1265, and SM57. I'll try and listen and comment to all these killer takes in a few. Might be later tonight though.

I also did a take using the Fuchs Pure Gain and Valve Job in tandem. Clean channel. I set it and hit record. I suppose I could have tried to make it a little better but it is pretty nice with no effort.

I just stumbled on this thread thanks to Scott Lerner, and I HAD to do a take. KILLER groove! So many fantastic takes by everyone. Chuck man, WHAT feel! JZilla, you almost bounced me out of the room! Here is mine with a Tele into my TwoRock E.Pro with the gain turned up a lot more than usual.

Thanks yZe, yes thats my Kingsley SKJ30 (kind of like a D32)

Thanks Scott - after hearing you and Chuck its pretty hard for anyone to come up with anything really! There are some other very nice takes here as well - I'm sure Woody's take is excellent too, but I couldn't get it to work.

I would love to meet you one day and maybe do some playing, but I think you already have all the silky smooth lines one person can handle!
