Game rules: I'll start with the first question and then check the thread at least twice a day. If no one answers correctly within a day, I'll provide an additional clue about every twelve hours. The member to guess correctly gets to pose the next question, keeping to the above format as much as possible.

Got it?

Here we go: This musician played bass with a band in the late 80's/early 90s. To say that the band had a revolutionary sound would not be hyperbolical. The musician is (sadly) currently driving a taxi for a living.

Name the musician.

Debbie Googe (born 1962 in England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England))[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debbie_Googe#_note-0)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debbie_Googe#_note-1) is the bassist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassist) for Irish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland)/British (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom) band My Bloody Valentine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Bloody_Valentine). Prior to her joining My Bloody Valentine, she lived in Somerset (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somerset) and played for a band called Bikini Mutants, who gigged with The Mob (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mob_%28band%29). Googe eventually moved from Bristol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol) to London, and early in 1985 an ex-girlfriend of hers recommended her as a bassist to Kevin Shields (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Shields) and Colm O'Ciosoig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colm_O%27Ciosoig) of My Bloody Valentine. She joined the band after an audition in April of 1985, eventually leaving in 1995, noting she "hadn't been happy for a long time". She became a cab driver for a short period, until forming Snowpony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowpony) in 1996 with her partner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_partner) at the time, Katharine Gifford (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Katharine_Gifford&action=edit), formerly of Stereolab (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereolab).[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debbie_Googe#_note-2) Googe is reportedly participating in My Bloody Valentine's upcoming reunion.

It says here she was a cab driver for a "short time" not currently.

so much pressure! might take me a bit…

this reminds me of a call in radio show called The Mad Trivia Party that aired on Binghamton University radio (where i grew up) in pre-internet times. There was an in-studio panel that would start the show with around 30 wacky, obscure trivia questions. Contestants (with goofy alter egos) can call-in, for every correct answer they get a point and the ability to ask a question, which the panel has 1st crack at. If the panel doesn't get the answer, it is open to the public and the contestant gets another point (and gives the panel the answer off-air). It was really fun and entertaining, but impossible to recreate in age of google. anyway, i'll stop typin' and start thinkin'

If the answers were just a quick google search away, it wouldn't take any knowledge, now would it?

I'll revise the question: I'm just looking for the word for "Andalou"

Clue: Just like the final lyric was a film reference, the lyric in question was as well, albeit a more contemporary one.

I should clarify… the lyric is actually "Andalusia", but it is a reference to the film Un Chien Andalou. The substitute word fits "Andalusia" and is a characters name (one word!) from a well-known rock-centric 80's film.

U47, U48, U67, or U87?

Covering a lot of ground there, Donnie! Maybe we should establish ground rules regarding how many guesses at one time. It was the U47 or U48.

I felt the urge to keep the game going at work, so I asked the question feeling quite sure it was the AKG D19c – a pretty specific looking mic... I double-checked at home, and discovered it was the 47 or 48, and couldn't tell which one! Anyhoo, the ball is back in your court Donnie. Ask away!

Shall we say one guess per… post?

Donnie B.
11-15-2007, 07:58 PM
Ok. You mentioned it could be one of a couple so I covered lots of ground. Usually the 47 was used on amps and the 48 for vocals.

Rush was fond of thanking another band in their liner notes by always skewering their name in a funny manner.

What was the bands proper name?

When the artist was writing this song, every time they reached a pause the guitar they were using would unintentionally feedback. When the song was properly recorded, it wasn't quite the same without it, so they overdubbed feedback on those parts. Name the song.

It's a famous major-label artist, so don't say it was your buddy, even if it's true!

Thank you, Chris. That is correct, minus the extra "s" (although the song is misspelled, it should have another "n"). It was the Smashing Pumpkins whose studio recording was missing the errant feedback of the demo during the "stops" between the lyrics "That when I can," and "I will", so they added it.

Yes. Baker getting so much acclaim for using 2 bass drums at the show kinda ticked off Bonzo - who could do more with a single bass drum than most guys with 2 (the riffs in "Good Times Bad Times" are a great example)

So using 4 sticks was partly to goof on Baker.

Good answer. Tetsu, etc, it is.

BTW (back to Bolin) I only guessed that because I'd been listening to Bolin a couple of days ago for the first time since the 70s.
Deep Purple played a big festival in Australia (Sunbury) shortly after Bolin joined, and he got a lot of hate, chants of "piss off Bolin, come back Blackmore". My friends were into Purple much more than I was, but we did like 'Owed to G' (surely should have been 'Ode to G') and one of my friends who loved Blackmore did get Bolin's Teaser album, though we never got around to checking out Billy Cobham's nigh-legendary Spectrum.
