View Full Version : Eventide Timefactor Demo
Took a look around today for any demos/review videos of the Eventide Timefactor - and still couldn't find anything new on youtube! I'd love to see one put through its paces on video... just to "see" it in action.
What I DID find though, was a new Flash demo that Eventide have done for the timefactor, showcasing the first 5 banks of presets. Pretty cool to check out, if you're still sitting on the fence between the TF and the Nova, or if you just want to hear some more clips of it...
Check it out:

Those aren't the exact places on the pedal for those selections...but those selections do appear on the pedal.

I remember the demo's lv did, and they were nice, but the hiss seem's a little much.
Anybody have better experiences with this unit, and how does it compare to some of the others out there?

I have zero hiss....and I had one of the first units. I sold my nova because of this. It is absolutely the best delay I have ever heard. It has the most tweaks and sounds of any delay I've played...and I run 9 on my board (10 when I had the nova)

I have a fairly early unit and had no problems with hiss either. In October they upgraded any of the previous purchased units and all the new units have the upgraded shielding. The noise issue is not an issue anymore.
I love my TF and have created some pretty nice patches. There is so many things to do with it that aren't even covered in the demos.

I just got my Nova and its pretty cool.
But,
Its not blowing away my DD-20 like I have been hearing...
Then again,
I'm a huge fan of the DD-20 and I'm really use to it.
Maybe,
I just need to mess with it more...
I like the clips on the TF on that link,
So,
I wonder if will beat out the Nova?

I'm the same way about the dd-20.
Honestly...if you think your going to pick the nova over the TF....really think hard about it...

Well,
I already have the Nova and the DD-20 and right now the DD-20 seems to do more for me in the event I had to choose one.
Although,
I'm still in the early stage of messin' with it.
But,
It still looks like in a "live" situation I'll be able to do and control more on the fly.
I do like some of the features of the Nova, like the layered delay effects.
The TF just looks like it has been really slow to get out on the market to really see anything used. Good thing I'm in no hurry...
But,
I'm want to believe that the TF will be better, especially going off price.

The Timefactor is hands down the very best delay I've EVER heard. I have one of the new ones with the shielding update and run thru high gain Diezel amps with NO noise. I had a Nova and dumped it....way too much noise! Seems like everything TC puts out with a power supply has noise. It's funny to me how many think the Nova is comparable to the TF. I think it is not even in the same league...Amazing unit!

Besides testing for noise, how would you know if a TimeFactor is the newest design with better shielding?
Hey jelyfinger, what number is yours? I have unit #395 and have been wondering if mine recieved the upgrade or not. I have no hiss or noise problems, but I am disappointed with the BYPASS options. No matter which I try, there is a big shift in tone and volume between bypass on/off. Yet, let there be no misunderstanding, I love my TF and a month into it still have so much to learn. It sounds really awsome and is versatile. And like a modern synth or PC, is upgradeable via USB. It is like having a chorus pedal, tremelo, echo, delay, and looper all in one. Hey, that's what it is!

Bob,
Can you describe what you are hearing when you say "shift in tone". And how much of a volume issue? Louder or softer?

Three months - from the start of August!
I delayed (s******) my order to make sure I got one of the shielded batch.
I have to say, of those sound clips... I love 4:1 the most - filter swept delays, yes please. I can't wait to get this pedal!!!

Hey Guys,
All the ones in question as far as shielding is concerned were on the initial batch that were released. Anything purchased in October or after has the updated shielding. I talked with a rep at Eventide and they said the first 200 were effected. Mine is #409 by the way.
Interested as well in your "shift in tone". Are you running thru a loop or in front? I have no noise in the loops of either my Diezel Herbert or 5150 III. Also, no volume drop or noticable tone change. Absolutely stellar sound.

I love 4:1 too but 1:2 digital delay with mod totally floored me...So pristine!

Not yet bud - and bad news on that front. The Modfactor has been delayed (again) until January. Severe bummer!

+1 I had the shielding fix added and the noise is gone and the pedal sounds perfect. The turnaround was fast too, just a couple days.

This is one of the very best features of the pedal IMO. The filter swept delays sound even better in person set to the BPM of your song with the appropriate beat subdivisions. Otherworldly.
BTW Jono - I saw David Kilgour last week. He has been a longtime favorite of mine. New Zealand has no shortage of talented, inspired songwriters. It was a special night too - David asked a pedal steel player to sit in for the entire set and perform improvised. He was excellent in his own right. The steel player was from Boston and had played in the adjacent venue earlier in the evening. Then they went their separate ways. A chance encounter. Just magical! :)

Hey guys. I was asked by a forumite here to make a demo. I might try to do one today, but if I don't, but tuesday I'll go through a demo of this pedal. I tried making one months ago, and gave it up. But alas, people need to see the features, as its powers are maximum.
I have a few demos on my soundclip page below (you'll need to scroll to the middle of the list, there are about 3 demos).
Of the 3 delays I recently tried, the Timefactor would have stayed if it weren't for the noise (and the difficulty in getting velcro on the bottom, not an issue now as I no longer have a pedalboard)
I don't even own a delay right now, though I'm interested in checking out one of the new Timefactors with the shielding.

If you get a new one and want to mount it to a pedalboard, you will need to take the rubber off the bottom. Mine stays mounted nicely now.

Sounds excellent starfish - both the timed filter delays, and the Kilgour show! We certainly have our fair share of songwriters down under... considering that our entire population is the same size as Sydney, or a small US city, we do pretty well, I think. :)
Looking forward to the video demo, BTBAM! :dude
