I'm a new member to TGP , just discovered it a couple of days ago . I'm mainly a blues player , have lots of different guitars ,and love lots of different styles of music. Favorite players would have to be Joe Bonamassa and Jimmy Herring !

Hi Bo , I'm about ten miles west of Chapel Hill ( but don't hold that against me , I'm an E.C.U. grad ! ) I've got three strats , a Les Paul Jr. Special , an
Ibanex AS 80 and just got my first Tele a couple of weeks ago and I LOVE it !
My main acoustic is a Martin OOO and I also have a '78 Alvarez Yairi that has aged out well, several parlor guitars from a Canadian company. If you think I've got it bad , my son in Raleigh has more guitars than I do !

Yeah Bo , I've known Greg for years ! Up until August I only lived a mile or so from him. We've since built a new house in Mebane. He's a great player and like me ,loves that old Allman Brothers stuff. Builds a pretty mean amp ,too !

I lived in Chapel Hill for ten years, but moved up to Rochester, NY a couple of years ago. I played in the BackBeat for about three years and we played in the Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Winston-Salem a lot, as well as SC and VA. The band is still active in the area.

Hey man- welcome to TGP. I was born and raised in Graham & Burlington until I moved to Boone and went to college at App. State. My wife and I moved to Charlotte eventually where I enrolled at Reformed Theological Seminary after which we moved to Dothan Alabama. Man do I miss NC! Just got back from there yesterday and it was a tough drive back!

Born in Elkin, 4 years enlisted during Vietnam (USAF, RADAR repair on the F4-E, honorably discharged. After touring for a couple of years, I did a BS at NCSU (UNC had no EE), graduated Summa Cum Laude, (3.94 GPA, Tau Beta Pi honor society, plus 1st in the school. They also had the only minor in Musical Instrument Manufacturing in the US so I jumped on that; I had and turned down had a lowball offer from Kaman). Worked in Winston Salem as an Engineer at AMP Inc for 4 years, then moved into supervision. Reality was that I was entirely too young to be that bored, so I joined the military again, as an Officer this time. Did an MS at NCSU in remote sensing (3.96 GPA, Phi Kappa Phi (Atmospheric Sciences, research area was tied very close to global warming as a forcing function for lower troposphere ozone production). I won't open that can of worms here, but I will admit I've also tracked the Sun's output segregrated by energy bands, since the Middle Ages, (using sunspot number as an analog to output then) then did tons of statistics studying temp as a function of Sun's output...I minored in time domain stats at State this time too), and did atmospheric chemical composition studies for planets in our system and galaxy...you are not receiving the true, all-inclusive story of warming from the media, govt, etc. All the PTB are revealing is how to win Federal Grants for various studies. I also worked close in hand with the National Climatic Data Center in AVL (why I moved my unit there a few years later), on unclassified projects from pole to pole. Study the warming meme carefully...
From NCSU I went to Biloxi, taught 5 different schools (RADAR, ElectroOptics, tropical meteorology, plus others) Won Commander of the Year, and choice of assignment. I'd had above TS clearance since the start, so after some other fun and games (lifestyle polygraph anyone?) I took 150 enlisted, 25 military, 100 civilians back to Asheville, and I set up a unit there that's the best kept secret in the military. A sidenote...Capt Bob Morgan, pilot of the Memphis Belle, was an Asheville native and became a close friend. He pinned my Major Rank on when I made that...and sent a card when I made Lt Col (he died shortly afterwards)
Then I got caught up in the deepest-black world, ended up assigned around the Pentagon from 2000 until I gave it up, turned down full Bird, (plus a $6 figure fed job traveling worldwide; a one-person shop answering to only one guy in DC,) and moved back to Wilkes Co.
You already know...this is for our compadres...there's nothin' like NC. Come to Merlefest sometime (held in April...for Doc Watson's deceased son Merle). 150-200K people over 4 days, with seemingly every great country/alt-country/bluegrass musician performing every year. Google it.
Again welcome. I build/repair guitars, amps, pedals now, and just hide in the corner here gleaning info...
You're among very dedicated and brilliant friends (and the inevitable exceptions...);)
Out here
