Hey guys I need some new 6L6's for my Mesa Mark III.
Does anyone know of some good new production tubes that are with in the Mesa specs for this amp?
I believe this amp has a fixed bias, but still needs tubes with in the correct range... correct?
thanks!

Hey trotter, im a fellow mesa fan also. I wanted to bring to your attention another forum you may not know about. For mesa people it is the grail. You can find out anything you want about boogies here.

I will also make mention for your tube questions and buying, I highly suggest either Eoritubes or Dougs tubes. Both are excellent.
Eurotubes sells only JJ's and Dougs tubes has many brands.

Me personally,, for new production 6l6, I would go with the c-winged
=c= SED 6l6.
P.S. when you call dougs or eurotubes, simply tell them what amp you are buying tubes for and they will set you up right with the correct matching tubes to work safely in a boogie.
Good luck and enjoy

Any brand will work. The dealer must be made aware that the tubes are for a Mesa (and know what to do with that information).
SED 6L6GCs and Tung Sol Reissue 12AX7s are highly recommended.

So what if I just ordering a quad of SED's or JJ's from some online dealer like tubedepot.com? What does the dealer need to do to them? Maybe I'm missing something here, but if the amp has a fixed bias, and you are dropping in the correct tube, what else needs to be done??
thanks.
That's it. Tubes are easy...

Just a suggestion. Try 5881s with your Mk III instead of 6L6s. Better crunch factor. I also tried EL34s and wound up with 5881s. I play a strat through mine.

Doug's tubes is a great supplier. For my MKIV(now sold), I used a quad of 6V6's from him that were awesome. I now use in my MKIII 2-Sovtek 5881's and 2- NOS 6L6's Sylvania's and they sound great. My MkIII is a green stripe that is wired in all pentode, but has a 60/100 switch that killls two of the tubes. So, in the outer sockets I use the 5881's for a nice grind in the 60 watt mode, but the 6L6's add the girth and chime in the 100 watt mode. Have fun experimenting.....

Hey trotter, I highly suggest calling dougs tubes. He has a bunch of different brands if your looking for current production. Like others have mentioned,, just make sure you tell him what amp your purchasing the tubes for.
And the dealer doesnt really do anything to the tubes. What he does is matches the tubes to make a matched quad for example, he also has to find tubes that have the same grade as your typical boogie tubes.
If you notice your current boogie tubes,,, they all have color codes on each tube. What he will do is find tubes of other brands that have the same spec's as boogie tubes. Simple for a boogie owner.
Just plug and play. P.S you also can ask for tubes that breakup sooner or have more headroom and so on.

... or maybe www.kcanostubes.com (http://www.kcanostubes.com) (since that's where this free information is coming from ;)). What needs to be done is selecting the tubes with the right idle current ratings for Mesa amps.

+1 for kca/bluestrat. never seen any other tube seller posting day in and day out on several forums helping everyone out! Reasonable priced "real" tubes too (NOS).
