I just installed a gold celestion alnico speaker in my DeArmond r15t and had to remove the bell to install. One 6v6 barely touches the magnet. Is this a problem?
Its sounds wonderful!!!!!Warm big bottom lots of sparkle.
Thanks all
Luther

It's not a problem in my '51 Deluxe that sports a 75hz G12H. I also had to take the magnet cover off.

Wow guys I'd have to say "yes, it's a problem"!!

The vibrations inside a combo amp are tough enough on the tubes without physical contact.. Anything rubbing on anything else is just a ticking time bomb.

Ticking time bomb as tube damage? arching? Just trying to understand.
Can i insulate with anything to help?
Thanks alot

Yes - the glass of the tube will eventually crack, rendering it useless. I've seen this happen with tube retainers that press against the glass.

I guess something soft would be better than nothing.. But remember, it gets hot!

Had a similar issue with one amp I had. I resolved it by wedging a small piece from a sheet of cork between the two.

Thanks all, i'll find some cork or soft non melting material that will buffer the tube. Maybe teflon.
Again this group is great!!!

Useless? How about rendering it highly dangerous! Broken glass + your hand = cuts [at best] or direct contact with the plates [at worst].

No....this isn't good. You need to figure something out.

As I said, I've not had issue, and it's been about 5 years. It barely rests on the speaker magnet... but the more I think about it I think that it may have a stabilizing effect, thus could be an improvement to one that flops in the socket due to the cone movement bouncing the air around it. ??? The other thing is that this amp is very dark sounding and was a test bed for speakers until I finally put in the brightest speaker I had... and it was a marriage made in heaven. The combination is gorgeous sounding!
