You know, organizing a TGP jam session could be quite fun. I see that the guys on GbL (GuitarsbyLeo) do this in various locations throughout the country, so why not have a cheese jam right here in Packerland someday?

Hey guys I agree. I think it would be great if us fellow Wisconians could get together jam, talk gear eat some cheese and drink beer, oh yeah and talk about the pack of course. What else do you do in Wisconsin:roll; ) What would we have to do to get something like this together?? Ryan
I do acoustic shows during the summer at a club called Fratello's in Oshkosh and they have a pretty good size back bar with a stage that I believe is available. I'd be willing to get details and throw up a sound system if anyone would be interested in an open jam kinda thing on a Friday or Saturday night.....maybe in January or February when the club is slow.
Might even pull a crowd!:D

Howdy from Racine County. My wife is a pointer. I spent many weekends enjoying SP, great little town I can't wait to visit again. I think we'll take the bikes up in the spring before school lets out.

Man.....small world! Let's do it! Ryan, I'll bet Clark Place in Point would be open for something like this. Not only that, but Central Waters Brewery out of Amherst would probably be more than happy to supply lots of beer. Above all, Clark Place has a fairly nice "in house" PA system. And hey.....the house can hold about 300 people as well. Now I'm talking like an up nort Polski guy dare hey.....youse all wants to do a chesse jam in Pointski?

Hey Wisconsinites! If you're really serious about this, I can probably arrange it in Stevens Point at Clark Place. If you're curious about the place, the link is http://www.clarkplace.com/ . The owners are cool, and we could essentially run the show however we please. I can certainly find drummers, bassists, and perhaps some vocalists, sax players, etc. Let me know if you'd like for me to begin arranging something here.

One further thought before I call it a night here, but if we were to pull this off at Clark Place, we essentailly have two options: The first would be to do a jam on a weeknight, but my guess would be that it would be tough to do with work schedules and whatnot. The second option would be to reserve a weekend night (Friday or Saturday night) where we could simply do a jam, but the place would have to be be open to the public free of charge. As long as I book it in advance - maybe three or four months - I think we could pull it off. It would also give me the time to find a rhythm section as well. Anyway, think about it and let me know your thoughts, ok?
Jim
A weekend night with plenty of notice would work better for me since this will require a little travel and hotel rooms.....Also, I think having it open to the public would be a big plus!
Sounds like an adventure!

Hey Jim great idea! Clark place is a great place with lots of acts and a good feel to the place(and it's in my back yard:AOK) I work on the local FD in Point and we do a lot of business there as well and I know Jim has played there a time or two. My drummer would be more than happy to sit in I would guess as long as I gave him a heads up. He is a great drummer and loves to play but I'm open to anything. We should try for early to late spring??? As far as the "refreshments" go we could try hitting up Point as well as Central Waters(great beer) they are pretty good with that stuff as well. Let's get her going!

Point is only three hours from Racine, it's a little over an hour from Madison. I used to drive it all the time to visit my girlfriend, fiance, wife. (Yep all three of them were in point)
Point is fair because it is dead center of the state.
So if we do this should we sign up for songs, i.e. learn a certain song on certain instruments so that everyone has a chance to play something that they know?
Also, should we do a gear list?
Yep, I've done a few of these before.

Jazz? blues? acoustic? let me know...

Good thinking JT! If you have had expierence with these before to mind helping us out to get this together?? We should have one or two contact person with all the details gear etc... Anybody else that has done this before chime in as well. I'm more than happy to do what ever needs to be done since I live in Point to get this thing up and running. This is going to be tits if this works out!

I'd be more than willing to help out. It's not hard to get it together and there is little risk of running things into the ground since jams just happen on their own in the middle of a well planned get together.

Hey all,
Sorry I haven't been on here all day, but I'll plan on talking to the owners at Clark Place in Stevens Point over the weekend to see if they'll even want to have this event take place at their establishment. I really don't see any reason why they wouldn't, but I think it's going to be a matter of how far they're booked ahead. Since Ryan lives in Point, and since I sort of do, too, on the weekends, it seems that between the two of us we could get the intial beginnings of the jam moving forward. My best guess is to bring whatever instruments you care to bring as well as some sort of a "grab-n-go" kind of an amp. I'd bet there will be more than enough amps to go around, though. There's a good "in-house" PA system there as well as a nice stage, so it's a cool place to do it. If we do it on a weekend, chances are the owners will want to open the place to the public. I wouldn't mind, but if any of you have any thoughts on this, it might be good to voice them now. All in all, it seems to be kind of a no-brainer......set a date and time and go. Anyway, I'm outta here for the weekend, so stay warm, and may the Packers beat the Rams!

Hey Wisconsinites!
Sorry I haven't responded earlier, but I'm still working on getting the jam venue booked. While there's indeed some interest at the club in Stevens Point, I have yet to lock in a date. For the time being, though, it looks as though I'll be able to get a date sometime in late April or May. There have been many questions about what songs to play as well as the possibility of needing drummers and other musicians. Once we have a date set, we can proceed with the other details. Above all, I'd like for this to be a jam that'll be open to musicians at all levels of talent and musical styles. We may need another volunteer or two to organize some sort of a songlist of some sort, but I'm certain there will be a considerable amount of blues going on, too. Anyway, I'll keep posting updates from time to time here so that you'll all be in the loop as to what's going on. In the meantime, have a great Christmas and New Year's!

Ok, we have a venue and a date for a Wisconsin jam if all of you are open for it. First, it can be held at Clark Place in Stevens Point, and I have a tentative date for Saturday, April 19th for the event. The owners are up for it, but for now I want to be certain that all of you Wisconsin gearheads and any other TGP'ers from the surrounding area are open for this. The idea for the moment is to run the event from 4:00 pm to about midnight. Of course, we'll have to be more organized down the road as to who'll play at what times and what the musical styles will be for any given times, but I want to be certain that it's possible to pull off this event in the first place before we spend lots of time on it. Anyone wanting to participate will have to be responsible for his/her own rooms and food if necessary, but the club usually provides free beverages, but that'll be probably be dependent upon the number of folks that show up. They also have great pizza there! So, for now, let's plan on continuing this thread to see if there's enough support to pull this thing off. If so, I'll open up an email address that'll be exclusively used for the jam, and we can go from there. In the meantime, have yourselves a great holiday season, and I hope to hear some feedback very soon. Cheers!

Cool, thanks for doing the legwork! April 19 is open on my calendar...
You might want to start a new thread just for the jam, in the Soundhound Lounge rather than the Introduction area (maybe you did and I just haven't seen it yet...).

Sounds like fun but I gig as many weekends as I can, plus Point is a bit of a drive from around Janesville. Maybe in the future, there could be a couple places rotated around the state.
Oh yeah, and welcome modernp.

Every Thursday night from 8 ~ whenever.

Yeah, booking a date for this is kind of tough, for some play on weekends quite often, and others are unable to do weeknights due to work schedules. Oh well.
I haven't yet started a thread in the Soundhound Lounge, but if anyone wants to begin one, please do so.
