I'm interested in getting an Akai Sb-1 Deep Impact...if I can ever find one!
So a couple of questions:
1.) Anyone selling one?
2.) Anyone have any other recommendations for bass synths (aside from Boss' bass synth pedal and the Electro Harmonix bass micro synth)?
I'm going for a deep synthesized sound similar to Dan Kurtz from The New Deal.
Thanks!
#1-I love the New Deal, and #2-Keep the search up- there is no substitute for this frikin sweet pedal- Almost everyone I know with them hunts down spares and hoards them. Worth the $ for sure. I heard Line 6 was going to do a synth pedal-I love the effect on their Lowdown amps. The old Korg silver unit (can't remember the name) is really sweet and programable, etc. These are your best shot for Dan's warm fuzzy oomph growl:D

Thanks for the advice.
1. I've fooled around with the Line 6 effects on their Lowdown amps. Any idea when they'd be pushing their pedal into production?
2. Re: Korg silver unit - is it still in production?
3. Any thoughts on digitech's synth pedal?
4. Any advice on where to look for the deep impact? Right now I've just kept an eye on ebay, but no luck.
Thanks

the Korg pedal is the G5 - almost as tough to find as a DI.
the Digitech BSW has samples on the website. Most o the people i know seem to use it as an octave pedal rather than synth
I've seen occaisional DI units go for sale on some of te bass specific forums - Talkbass.com and basschat.co.uk
most of the guys on both of these forums, are happyto help, so a look may be in order?!
The concensus over at Talk Bass is that the EH HOG with foot pedal may be the best in-production substitute at the moment. No cheap endevor either. The new micro-pog can help scratch the itch though (for a lot fewer $$$).
Happy Hunting,
Edward

Thanks for the help! Great news...I found a Deep Impact! But I'll have to check out the EH HOG. I was under the impression that the HOG was more of a guitar (high freq) pedal. Does it hold the low end pretty well?

Doesn't dan use a boss octave pedal and a moog filter? I know that's what tim lefebvre uses with wayne krantz, and he sounds pretty awesome.
On a budget note, the ibanez SB7 is a pretty cool little filter unit- pair it with an octave pedal, and maybe a fuzz that preserves the low end, and you'll get pretty far. Without the lousy tracking of the boss and digitech units.

Not sure what Dan uses. I've heard that he uses the Deep Impact as well as a Roland V-Bass.
Thanks for the recommending the ibanez SB7. I couldn't find any audio samples online, so I'll have to try and get my hands on one.
Do you have any recommendations for a fuzz that preserves the low end?

It's been a while since I sat the new deal, but I think that's what he was using a few years back at least. IMO unlikely that he would be using too much digital stuff, but I could be wrong.
Check out this AWESOME page (http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/products/effects/page/sb7.html)about the SB7- LOL. It really is a nice sounding straight forward LPF if you don't use the distortion circuit.
As far as fuzzes- I'm sure there are better people (bassists) to answer that question, especially on the cheap.

Thanks! Re: posting some clips - will do. I'm having some recording issues right now, but I'll work them out. I'll let you know when I've got something.
Thanks.
