Does anyone have any suggestions for the MOST STABLE 12AX7 for use in a Komet? Most 12AX7s tend to get a bit microphonic when pushed hard in the Komet 60/Concorde.
Thanks,
Mike

Try either the JJ EEC83 or JJ ECC82 for current production.
A good ol NOS 5814 will in V1 will cure the Microphonic and Noise Demons in that Amp. Playing an Amp cranked with a 12AX7 in it is a recipe for noise disater. I used to do it a lot but finally gave up and started using 12AU7's in V1 then cranking the Amp with Zero Microphonics and Noise and using a Pedal for Solos.
Just my 2 cents though.

Believe it or not, the 9th gen (and 8th gen) chinese are very good in high gain amps. (vht clx in my case) Very good sounding and cheap. Try'em from Doug's Tubes.

Tung~sol, Great 3d hi fi bell tones in my concorde
GT12ax7m, Great 3rd thick rich chewy gooey goodnes, and cleans up well with a pinky twist, again, concorde.
No feedback issues on both, must got lucky, good luck finding the GT12ax7m's

If your not looking for nos tubes, ive found some good new tubes. Every one suggestion may be different. I think it depends alot what amp, pedals ect that you use. I had a 1974x with stock JJs. I played the amp cranked all the time. They only lasted about 6 months. Ive found for me that chinese groove tubes to be good in the 1974x and my vicky 45410. Ive also liked an electro harmonix 12ay7 in the v1 in my victoria bassman. IF you can try out different preamp tubes you could find out what works best for you. It can be fun also.

Not in any excessive way, and no more than well sorted EH's or Tung Sols.
We are talking "bad" feedback, correct? (microphonic) They do the good feedback, as they should.

Yes, we're talking bad feedback...the Komets are designed to be "on the edge" when cranked up , and not every 12AX7 can perform under those conditions without becoming microphonic.

You may want to try NOS at least in V1 the EH's and Tung Sol's are gonna go bonkers on you in that amp if the Volume is dimed.

I can't dime out my concorde, past 1 o clock with humbuckers, just gets to fizzy and compressed... kinda Neal Young ish, in a bad way to my ears. about 11 to 12 o clock good for buckers (paf ish) 12 to 1 o clock good for strats... but I will have the Klon on about most of the time for humbuckers or Hot Cake for Strats. But a Concorde Dimed on fast.... not good to my ears at least.

I can play the Concorde with the volume on about three o'clock with humbuckers before it gets too gainy for my taste...however, I think it sounds better at about 1 o'clock. I have NOS Tesla (non JJ) all the way around in the Concorde, and although they started out great, they are getting a bit microphonic now if the volume is up past 2-3 o'clock with humbuckers.
