Well, I gave the Mackie Onyx as much time as I could but as per the Mackie support forum, something is defective with the base station unit so I am returning it to MF. It turns out when recording guitar (or bass) through the instrument in on the base station, you get a loud hum and this is a known issue.. It kind of sucks because I believe it's a great idea and could be a great product, but there are other known issues (just read through the forums on the Mackie site).
I'm still using the Line 6 toneport and I'm getting to like the simplicity of it, but I don't know if I can commit to this as my only soundcard. As of tomorrow I will be all rigged up for firewire (already bought the SIIG firewire PCI card and a new 6' 6 pin to 6 pin cable) but sadly, no firewire sound card to use :(
I was thinking about giving the Presonus card a go, but I've heard that the mic pre's are very low in volume and would do best with a real mic pre in front anyway... So, here I am full circle. My trusty Seasound solo is looking better every minute and I'm wondering if going for a nice mic pre in front of the Seasound for live stuff AND running the toneport through the front end to warm it up makes the most sense? I don't know, I'd like to get something soon to take advantage of the MF 12 months, no interest. What other good $300 - 400 sound cards with nice mic pre's are out there? Echo cards? Motu? Presonus? Anyone? (I'd like something rack mountable USB or Firewire, but I only need 2 live in's (and 2 line in's)

Up next, Presonus Firebox... thank the lord for MF's 45 day return policy. I should be a sound card reviewer at this point.
