View Full Version : Just Came In... Suhr 4x12
Hey guys, just came in today! Its a CAA 4x12 Straight Front unloaded. Shes black and black. Im going to put 2 Two Rock g12-65's for sure, what should i put as my other 2 speakers? Should i just do 4 of the same?
Im trying to make this an uber metal cab! Any suggestions?
I could also use some speaker wiring diagrams, if anyone has em, and what i should use as wire/how to do it. I know how to soldier well, and have seen the schematics, but is there any other tips? anything i should know?
Pics tomorrow!
Thanks guys!

Great cab! I have the same one with greenbacks. Here is a link to some wiring diagrams and an old thread of mine with some useful info. Read John Philips' relpy in this thread because he explains the difference in tone produced by series & parallel

I have a dilemma guys, my eminence speakers wont fit in the cab!
I tried a tonker and my Two-Rock speaker and neither of them will fit!
The hole pattern is too small, i cant get all the screws in straight, and i dont want to strip the T-Nuts
What can i do? I really wanted to use the eminence speakers, but its looking like i cant. Should i go for celestion g 12-65s?
Please help! thanks!

You should be able to enlarge the hole on your speaker frame. How off is the hole on the cabinet?
almost a quarter inch, its mind boggling to me. i mean i could drill some holes but its brand new, has it always been like this? i guess this is a page for john himself!

Eminence frames are larger than Celestion frames, which I think is what the problem is. Are the speakers sitting flush to the baffle board?
yes they were perfectly flush. The holes were actually too close together. im afraid im gunna spend a ton of money on speakers and get screwed.
Im actually looking at the scumbacks instead for now. I was thinking about getting 2 H55s and 2 H75-LHDCs. Would this be good for super high gain? im talking deep downtuned death metal. x pattern set up series parallel?
Will they fit in my suhr cab?
this cab is brand spankin new! i just picked it up yesterday from one flight up guitars.
I used a tonker and a two rock custom speaker.
It looks perfect and is exactly what i wanted, but i just wanna get the speakers to fit right :) im sure it wont be a massive problem. i would like to get the T nuts though so i could use some eminence speakers.
Should i send you a PM?

Hmm, looks like John has answered your mounting question. AS for the H55/H75-LHDC mix, that would be the right mix, but I'd get them in the HP/65 watt versions, mounted in an X pattern.
Good luck!
yeah for sure im gunna get the higher powered ones.

i once had to open up the holes on an ampeg by running a dremel tool all around the edges. That worked great.
the holes for the lugs are the problem, no the speaker itself
update: i had 8 t nuts the same size sitting around and i drilled the holes, they fit just fine now. ill have to get 8 more soon!
Heres the pic!

Reinhold Bogner suggests using Celestion V-30's and 75's wired in an x pattern for ultra high gain tones. His Ubercabs are wired that way for the Uberschall and the combination delivers crushing tones.
i actually ordered 2 scumbacks recently.
I got 2 H55-LHDCs and bought one more TR12-65 from Two-Rock so ill have an x pattern of those 2 types of speakers.
Im not sure who i specifically spoke to there at southbay, might have been jim? He said that the larger dust cap will give me even lower bass response around 45hz which will give me the low end i want.
Im guessing this will work well for whatever i choose to play.
Soon i will get an EVM 12L for the 1x12
