My daughter's dog took a leak on the grill cloth of the vox 4x12 cabinet I've had for all of a week  What's the best way to clean it (the cab, not the dog)?

Take it from someone who knows. THIS MEANS WAR!

Cats and dogs can smell parts per million of urine, so even once you get the grill cloth and the wood frame and speaker as clean as possible, you may still be fighting a battle to keep it from happening again.

Buy a good waterproof dust cover for any gear within pet range and it helps to elevate the gear with a tilt stand, especially when not in use.

If at all possible prevent pets from ever getting near your gear again.

Try using steam to moisten the grill cloth then dab out with a wet sponge.....

Gently wet the area with water then dry with a paper towel. Repeat until visible stains are gone. Be patient: A little water - dry with paper towel - let dry. repeat

I disagree.

You'll need to thoroughly clean anything that was sprayed.

I would remove the speakers and inspect them.

This will take extra gentle care and you dare not get the cones too wet
or use any harsh soaps.

I would check with the manufacturers, but I'm thinking the safest
thing to use on a paper cone might be denatured alcohol as long as you don't get it on the doping. Really not sure on this.

Mild soap and water, may do it, if you take extra care not to over soak
the cone material.

Cleaning the cabinet wood should not be as difficult, but still needs to be done thoroughly.

If there is any way to thoroughly wash and rinse the grill cloth
with Simple Green Spray, that's what I would use, but then you'll need
to rinse and air dry slowly.

After you go through all this crap, I'd certainly break down and buy a good
quality cover like the ones from Studio Slips.

Animal urine is a major pain to remove. I'm really bummed about it. I'll see about removing the grill and cleaning it. Vinegar is pretty effective, and does not seem to affect most fabric dyes. A cover is also a necessity. Wish I had bought one BEFORE the dog did his thing.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Studio Slips are not only well made, but washable according to Susan.

I just purchased one for my new Vintone Cherry 2X12.

It's WAR I tell ya!

2 things i use to clean up with a lot. A munci steamer, uses no soap or chemicals cleans really good. Simple green, non toxic, safe, smells good. Spay pet. Keep door to music room closed. The dog is marking his territory, sooooo

I really think the steamer will work and wont damage if you take it slow.

I'd just replace the grill, and clean the rest as others have suggested. As to the speakers, I haven't a clue.

......I would urinate on the dog....

take that cab outside, let him (doggie) smell it and then let him have it in the eyes. Be careful, Rover might think its snack time.
Do this each and every time this occurs until he goes on your neighbor's roses instead. No, that's dog language....not cruelty.. he will understand.
Now, if your neighbor goes on your roses, well that's another matter.

No, I'm not kidding. Train that animal or it will train you.

When you say "let him have it in the eyes" are you really suggesting that I whiz on the pooch? Usually, I do an ok job of detecting sarcasm, but this time I'm not sure.

My problem is with the stoopid cats my ex-wife left behind.

I love animals, but these 'lil fkers have pushed me to the limit.

I have to keep everything covered because I can't force them to stay
outside in the cold of winter.

I would never hurt an animal, but there are times when I wish I
had a motion sensitive laser to keep these critters away from my gear.

I was doing some speaker swapping in a 2x12 combo. I had pulled one of the celestion V30 speakers, but it was late and I decided to finish the job the next day. I woke up and found, to my horror, that one of the animals, probably a cat, had decided to "play" with the speaker cone by tearing it apart. It had never occurred to me that a cat would want to rip apart a speaker. Of course, I did not think the dog would want to wiz on my cabinet. :jo

We use Petzyme for our dog's "mistakes" and it seems to do a great job. We've never had a repeat occurence that we're aware of. When we first got our little guy he peed on my Martin case with my new-to-me D42-K2 wedding gift inside! I about lost it but with continued training we got him potty-trained.

What part of the cab got peed on? If just the tolex than petzyme should be fine. If it's grill cloth/speaker/baffle board then it might be a bit trickier.

Of course, the most important part of the equation is training the dog to go outside only. Once you gert to that point, you'll rarely need to clean anything up. Good luck!

Edit: oops! Just re-read the OP and saw it was the grill cloth. Arg. There's no removable panel on the front of those cabs is there? I have a Vox 2x12 and it doesn't look like there's a panel. What a PIA! :(

Let the spot dry. Spray a little Lysol on it, then list in the Emporium as "like new but need to down grade to a 2x12".

If its just on the grille cloth tear the damn thing off and soak it. If that's an utter failure just order a replacement and frisby the old one into the trash. I HATE the smell, or even thought, of any escretia in my home.

Head down to Petco and pick up some Nature's Miracle. Stuff works.

Clearly you must establish yourself as the alpha entity. Unfortulatly this means that you must now piss on the cab in order to mark YOUR territory...... plus what Wallace said too.
