View Full Version : Rivera Failed to Start

Yesterday, when I switched on my Rivera M-60 combo, the red channel-indicating LEDs and all the footswitch LEDs (there are five of them) failed to come on. The orange power indicator LED was lit, and I could see what I assume were the EL34s glowing, but no sound was coming from the amp. I checked cable connections and worked the pots and, after a minute or two-- before I could move the combo & cab out of the corner to get a good look at all the tubes--the LEDs started to glow feebly, then came to life. I don't know much about the guts of tube amps, but am I right to suspect either a tube or a power supply issue? First time this has ever happened; room temperature is always stable and I've fired it up since with no problems.

Many thanks.

Thanks, aleclee, I will. Didn't know a fuse could fail intermittently though.

angus, you are probably right about it being an intermittent connection. It will not be a tube problem. More likely is the low voltage DC supply. The first place I would check is the solder connection for the leads of the 7815 and 7915. They have larger leads than most of the other components on the preamp board. It would not be at all surprising to find the solder joints on those leads to be less than optimum.

antik, much obliged. I'll post what I find in a day or so.

Thnx
