Hey folks,

I just posted a live recording of Smoke on the Water covered by my band, The Dead Kennys.

We thought it'd be fun to cover this tune because I don't know of ANYONE who does because most folks consider it cliche and forget what a great tune it is. We stayed pretty much with the classic form:

Give her a listen!

Yo Paul ..
You guys are a great band ....
Love it when a band has the courage to do covers in their own way ..
I'm a fan my man ..

Damn that Joesphs quick of the mark - post has only been up a few minutes!

I had to do this a few months back as a special request. I loved playing it, and I really dug your version.

nice one

Hi guys. Thanks for the kind words. I've got several more posting in the next day or so. I'll post links as we go.

Now I just gotta get gigs for the band since our house gig is gone now :-(

Nice job guys....

Despite this being the first riff guitar players learn Richie Blackmore's solo is more challenging. It's a mini composition with nicely executed 16th notes and bends. It's a nice nugget to learn to help build up your chops.

Rock on!

I liked the solo. Good slow hand stuff.

Takes some stones to cover purple, and you guys did more than pull it off

Cool Dirty South Feel, to boot

Man, your tone on the solos would make Richie envious

Good playing & feel, lefty

However, on the second solo I was kinda hopin' for some of the Blackmore modal explorations (in a melodic, not necessarily a shredding sense) - although the solo was executed well anyway

Just my opinion

I dig the SotW.

I dig Low more. I've always liked that song. Points for use of the word cosmonaut
