Im really digging the burn channel on my new SS. I cant help thinking how versatile it would be to make the second gain on the burn channel footswitchable! Anybody have any thoughts on a mod like this? I wouldnt think it would be too difficult? Maybe? Bob

How is it engaged on the front panel?

It isnt. Its got two gain knobs. Im thinking making the second knob footswitchable would be nice for lead gain /boost. The first knob function's independent ,sort of ,from the second. In other words you can have the second gain knob fully off and still have plenty of gain. It would be nice to set the second one for added gain and be able to switch it in at will. Bob

One thing to consider is you have a 5 year warranty with that amp so mods like that would void it. That said if your good at working on amps then there nothing in there you can't fix.
My OCD works well with my super-sonic to give me additional OD tones. That's another way to get where you want maybe.

Yeah just thinking to would be a cool mod. I have a clean boost I have in front for the same thing really.
Im very happy with the OD the amp has. At lower settings its meaty with good string definition while remaining smooth enough. At higher setting it can sound tough as nails to singing violin type sustain. I havent really found a bad tone in the "burn" channel come to think of it!
I finally got a handle on the clean channel too. Switch channels and roll of my guitar volume=nice sparkly cleans on the Vibro side. So far I dont have much use for the Bassman side as it breaks up to quickly for me but thats OK. I only need one clean sound.
Put a Mullard long plate in the V1 followed by a Sylvania black plate 5751 in the V2. JJ's in the rest with a Tele in the PI. The mullard in the V1 added a nice warmth and low end to the amp. The 5751 lowered the gain a bit in the clean channels. Had a 12AY7 in there but the 5751 black plate sounds better.
It hasnt taken long to find my way around this amp and thats a good thing. They've done a great job on this amp. It should appeal to younger gain seeking guitarists hopefully as well as the vintage crowd. It desevres to IMO. Bob

I use my OD-3 for lower gain, and set the SS for higher gain so I have two choices. Works out good for me!

I am very happy with this amp as well. The only thing it lacks are lower power settings, I can only use this amp for larger gigs. In fact it did really well at an outdoor gig this past summer. I use a 68 Deluxe Reverb for smaller gigs but I would buy a 25watt 6V6 version of this amp in a second!! Before this amp I would use my Super Reverb or Bassman for loud situations but the versatility of this amp is great.

Well it might be possible to run JJ 6V6's if the bias pot will get the range down enough. Those buggers are like 6L6's in a 6V6 package. I dont think I'll try it though-480 volts is pushing them too far!
I havent gigged much in the last couple of years but if I did I dont think the wattage wouldnt be a problem. Play mostly classic rock with a few old school metal tunes thrown in. Power tube saturation isnt an issue. Besides it sounds pretty fat at moderate levels to me.In fact I think it would do just fine atop the matching 2x12 cab! ....I dont have yet....:)

I did try the JJ6v6s a few months back and the pot wouldn't quite get there. I have read where those JJs can really take a beating though. My band plays rock and blues and I tried the SS at a couple smaller venies and it was "yer to loud" until I really backed off.
