Stupid speaker wiring question

I have a '68 Fender Super Reverb that I just replaced the speakers in but I'm not sure of the polarity of the 1/4" jack. Should the tip be connected to the positives of the speakers and the skirt/shaft to the negatives? I looked online but I could not find the answer.
