I'm on the endless search, like many of you, for the one be-all, end-all amp. My ideal would have Plexi cleans, JCM-800 crunch and liquidy Boogie-like sustain on the 3rd channel. It also needs to sound great at medium to low volume levels - I play at a good volume at home, but I never play out, and I'll never get a 100 watter without a master volume cooking into distortion.
I LOVE the cleans & crunch in the OD-100, and it sounds great at low volumes, but it lacks the 3rd, liquidy lead channel.
I have a Fat Boy amp that comes close to having all 3 channels - great tones in that one. But, none of the three are the best in their category - however, it is probably the most versatile 3-channel amp I have played.
Also, a Fuchs TDS has great cleans, OK crunch and better liquidy leads. I'm thinking I may be able to tweak speakers and use a pedal or two and this may be the ultimate solutions, but this amp doesn't seem to have the balls to do an AC/DC type crunch tone - it is more of a finesse amp.
I just got a Boogie Mark IV - still trying it out, but so far the cleans are good but not great, the crunch is lacking rawness or balls and the liquidy lead is awesome!
From my limited experience, Ecstasys have the crunch & liquidy lead, but they need some volume to sound great and the cleans suck. I have played only the 101s, not the 100s - should I try the 100s?
Any other suggestions? Obviously, I could use a pedal somewhere in here, which is what I typically do with my real Plexi. But, I'm looking for more of a modern do-it-all amp.
