Hello Everyone !
I just learned about this forum by exploring the Dr. Z website. I must say I'm well pleased with what I have seen so far. Great site.
I have been playing guitar for around 50 years. My mother taught me some chords when I was 7 and the spark was lit so to speak. I enjoy playing guitar as much today as I did when I was 18.
Currently I play in a 50's band and we have over the years expanded our list to include songs from the 60's and 70's. I also started playing at church on Sunday mornings - That has given me some new interests in contemporary Christian music. I honestly didn't know this music was out there.
I have G.A.S. pretty bad and I love it ! Some of my gear consists of:
Guitars :
1948 Gibson L48 (my Dad's guitar that I learned to play on)
1952 Martin 00-17
1957 LP Jr (that I modified back in the 70's- boy was I dumb)
1980 Rickenbacker 360-12 (my Roger McGuinn influence)
1991 PRS Artist (#17)
G&L George Fullerton
2001 MIM Fender Strat w/Kinmans
2001 Fender Fat Strat Texas Special
1997 Gibson Les Paul Special
2007 Les Paul Antique (a GOW)
Guild DCE5
Guild F212xl
Dano U2
Dano Longhorn Bass
Amps:
1964 Gibson Falcon
1979 Deluxe Reverb
199? Vibroverb 63 RI
Rivera S120
Dr Z Route 66
Dr Z "Z Best" Cab 212
Marshall 1974X Bluesbreaker RI
Roland Cube 60
Pedal Board:
Ernie Ball Volume Pedal
Analogman Orange Squeezer
Chandler Tube Driver (an original one)
TS-9 w/ Moho Mod
Boss Chorus
Boss Giga Delay
and so on, and so on......
I have been blessed in many ways, I have 5 wonderful children, 6 grandchildren and a fantastic wife. I thank God everyday for the family he has given me and the gift of playing the guitar.
R&R Forever ! To all - Peace
Thanks in advance, Jim:RoCkIn

I can dig the wallet info. Within the past 6 weeks I sold a fine Gibson ES-347 and I traded my LP Classic for the LP Special AND Fat Strat. ANd I purchased the LP Antique and the 1974x !!!! I think I have my "fix" for the time being. I haven't had very good luck at Woodsy's. I bought the Rivera there -new- back in 1989 and they didn't keep their promise on some of the deal. I haven't bought anything there since - I go in once in a while just to browse - but I still have the bitter taste.... Thanks for the welcome ! Jim

Howdy neighbor! What band do you play in? I've played in a pretty good 'oldies' band 'round these parts for about 6 years, ending the stint in '02, I believe.
Welcome!

My band is " Class of '57 ". I joined about 7 years ago and originally played bass for about a year. Then when the guitar slot opened I slid right in.
A great bunch of guys to play with which in my experience is the hardest thing to find. Thanks, Jim

Definitely know guys who have been in and out of that band over the years. Good act, no doubt. I played guitar with Larry Alltop and NGB for years. Great gig, too. Bought a bunch of really nice gear with the profits! :AOK

I haven't had the chance to meet Larry although I'm sure Sherry and Jimmy D from the band know him. I believe he and his brother were in a band called " The Lime " back in the 60's ? Boy am I dating myself. I saw NGB at a function a few years ago the keyboardist looked very familiar. I believe I might have been in a band with him for a very short time - Tim...
maybe? All I can remember about him is he had recently purchased a DX-7 keyboard and was very immersed in learning all of it's capabilities. Good musician tho' ... nice guy, too. I didn't recognize anyone else, unfortunately. Regards, Jim

Good memory! Tim Largent. Great guy, good keyboardist, definitely had all the 'oldies' piano/organ/horns tones down cold when I played in the band.
If the band name rings a bell, I'm now playing guitar in "Aftermath, Experience the 60s" band. Great fun. Enjoy the heck out of getting to do some really cool 60s music. 'Welcome to the band, here's your Ric 360. Learn how to play all these Byrds, Stones and Vogues songs!'
We're not working much during the 'off-season' right now, but have lots of festival dates already booked for '08. Should be fun, good money and playing a bunch of festivals at 'Anytown,' Ohio this summer.
Let me know where you guys are playing when the weather breaks. If you'd like the opportunity to get out front and hear your band, I'd be happy to spell you for a song or two so you can. I remember the three chords required to do the 50s thing! ;)

Dave,
If you'd like check out Classof57.com. There should be a schedule on there. We are in our slow period also .... I'd like to play more in the Winter. I'm kinda familiar with Aftermath... I seem to remember a guitar player Russ something that was in that band - Good player... nice guy..met him a few times. Weren't they wearing the Paul Revere outfits at one time ? Funny thing is I had a chance to audition for them at some point - I don't remember why I didn't . It was a while ago, tho'. You're welcome to sit in with us - I have no idea what the band sounds like out front, I sing most of the songs that Sherry doesn't so it's tough . We mike everything but I have no idea on the mix. I quit worrying about it long ago. The other guys in the band (bass, keys and drums) Are in a blues band called Memphis Cradle. A few weeks ago their guitarist injured his hand on the day of a gig and they asked me to fill in. What a great time! Although he played a little we traded blues solos all nite - Good Fun.
