That about says it all. I thought I was certain on my pedalboard setup. Now...I just don't know. I recently added a 10 band MXR EQ to my chain, and it sounds great when I'm playing clean. I just don't dig it once I kick on my dirt.

Maybe I don't really need an EQ?

Maybe I should sell the EQ and get something else???? But...what?

No need to be a dick and tell someone they need lessons when you never even heard them play.

that was pretty funny, actually. and not having a sense of humor is more or less the definition of being a dick.

How can anyone possibly know what's missing from your pedal collection when they don't know what you already have?

There's nothing wrong, simple fact is that the eq curve you like to hear with clean sounds (maybe a little scooped with a nice shimmery top end?) is different to what works best with overdriven tones.

Dig now - if your clean tone sounds great to you with the EQ and not so much with dirt added, then turn the EQ off when you turn on the dirt.

What I have is listed in my signature.

Aidan said it while I was typing - cool.

Well, I thought about the whole EQ off when I go to dirt....but then I'd have to worry about switching 2 pedals on and off. Not THAT big of a deal....but a minor pain. What would a worksround be? Put the EQ in a loop?

Ah, sorry, I didn't even bother to look. :jo

As mentioned before, how about a modulation pedal like vibe or trem?

Assuming you are using a separate pedal for "dirt" you could try a Loopmaster Clean/Dirty FX Switcher

This is a great question. I would suggest setting you rig up with loops so you can switch from clean (EQ no Overdrive) to dirty (no EQ with overdrive). I ran my rig this way for years, actually with separate EQs in each loop as clean / dirty tones like different curves to sit well in the mix. These days I just shoot for a clean I like on the amp and EQ the overdrive to compensate.

I already got a Boss Trem. That's the TR-2

Would running the EQ before the dirt change anything?

I have a WOBO double looper to do this. The way I use it is Channel A is for my clean with Compressor and EQ, when one is on my board, B has my dirt pedals. The WOBO has an inverter switch so you can go from dirt to clean with a different set of pedals engaged in one stomp. My chorus and delay are in the loop so not switched with the WOBO, as I pretty much always have the delay on. You can also run channels A & B together or both off too, works great.
