I have been looking at the AC Booster and thinking about using something other than my FDII -- is this a good trade?

Fulldrive II (older blue one); maybe not.
Newer FDII Mosfet, yes go for it.

I have the older Blue w/ push pull comp/cut cream knobs. <-- alliteration at its best!

So you say a no go on that one?

I would say keep the FD2. The AC is cool, but I found myself only liking it with humbuckers. The FD2 is FAR more versatile, like the Swiss Army Knife of OD's and it sounds great with all of my guitars and amps.

Keep the FD2 it is a time tested design and works great at the gig.

Another vote for keeping the FDII. I've owned and gigged with both pedals and the FD is more versatile.

Yeah, while I liked the AC I liked my FD2 set with lower gain much better.

Owned both, FD2 stayed...

Also owned both - AC not only got sold after ~6 months, but the next guy who bought it immediately sold it, and so did the next guy.

It's definitely a distortion while the FD is an overdrive. Both? Sure! Just the AC? Negative.

I concur with everyone else. I've tried both extensively and did a lot of A/B comparisons and the Fulldrive always won - especially as an overdrive for lower gain tones. The FD2 was clearer but never overly bright or harsh, it definitely did the texas tube screamer tone better but had more sounds available, and it just sounded sweeter no matter how I set the AC Booster. Don't get me wrong, the AC Booster is a great pedal too, but the Fulldrive is just better imo. It's the only pedal I really regret getting rid of when I downsized my pedals...Although my Analogman SD-1/808/Silver sounds damn good too.

If you like the Fulldrive, but want something with a little more, check out the T-Rex Moller. It's got the option to leave the mid-hump in or go flat-mids, but it also has a mix knob to blend in your clean tone. Plus, it has an independent clean boost. The Moller beat the FD and the AC for me, especially with my AC30. I wouldn't pay new price for it, though. You can find one on the emporium for around $150.
