Greetings, fellow gear freaks! Welcome to Non-Digital Tom’s Super Spectacular NAMM 2008 thread. This idea was a big hit when I did it for the 2006 NAMM Show. I attended the show last year, but never got around to making a presentation of the photos I took. This year I decided to dig in and do it again – it took WAAAY too much time and labor to put this together (that’s why I’m just posting it now). I remember now why I took last year off.

Before we start, one thing you have to understand about NAMM is the sheer magnitude of the whole thing. With nearly 10,000 exhibitors and over 85,000 attendees crammed into 4 days, it’s impossible to really see everything that’s there. So for every cool piece of gear or famous axe slinger I saw, there were at least ten others I missed.

This presentation also reflects my own personal experience of the NAMM show. The stuff that’s here is what I’m interested in (for example, I skipped over isles and isles of band and orchestra instruments). But I’m pretty sure that if I like something, most people here will too. There are more than 250 photos to follow. Please allow the whole thing to post before replying… and ENJOY!

* WARNING: Viewing this thread will result in unremitting and financially debilitating GAS – proceed with caution! *

Mike and I got to meet the founder of Foxx Pedals, Steve Ridinger. He’s the President of Danelectro now and isn’t involved with the current Foxx company. Steve was very cool and happy to hear there were still vintage Foxx fans out there. I razzed him in the book about being too busy to be interviewed, but it turns out it was the doing of some administrative call screener - Steve knew nothing about it and would have gladly done an interview.

The very flakey geetar is actually built by my very swiss colleague, Claudio Pagelli (www.pagelliguitars.com).
Totally encrusted with real Swarowsky crystals, plays like a dream.
I have no idea of what is the connection to Mr Schertler (who lives in my hometown here in the south of Switzerland) - but I shall enquire at this year's Musikmesse :)

:) My buddy Calvin and I hit this shop on sunday, near the guitar center. Quite possibly the most impressive vintage shop I've ever set foot in.. I had to leave otherwise my wallet was going to go empty or I would have sold my plane ticket for some of these pedals & amps :)

lots of pics here :)

I swear I posted in this thread yesterday, but my post seems to have disappeared... was there some update glitch that occurred?

Anyway, to repeat what I said (as if I can remember):

Thanks for stopping by the booth, Tom. Sorry I didn't step out for a picture... I was sort of the "man behind the curtain" this year, and I'm glad, because the insanely horrible head and chest cold I had turned me into a 25% operational phlegm-ball. It was all I could do to try to write down my dealers' orders and figure out if new signups were going to cause conflict with the established stores. Next year, promise!

And Bill "Shades" Chapin - the guy who built Josh's guitars.

Incredible amount of work you've put in - and thanks! I walked the show and I can't believe how much I didn't see!

THREE parapedals???? That vintage shop is amazing (I bet the prices are even more amazing)

that shop had reasonable prices, an original TS808 was $375, they had ODI, ODII Ibanez pedals usually hitting $500-700 on ebay for $380..
They had EVERY Square button ibanez known to man, the series before, and every Boss pedal.. literally... Not to mention the insane amount of consecutive years of Fender jaguars,jazzmasters..

The amps were off the wall prices.
As were the guitars, but the pedals were reasonable :)

“Sounds so good, I just start to laugh – AH HA HA HA HA!”

that would be Me (looking more like my own grandfather everyday), Josh Smith, and Ken Harill (whose head you are seeing the back of.) I had the pleasure of introducing Ken and Josh both are pretty freakin' unbelievable players.

Pretty sure that's a NO.
The eighth note toggle is up above with the knobs.

Ok. I've watched this guy's tune and I like to think that he's looking for a girl at namm that will let him pick her nose. He may be thinking of it right there... just daydreaming off into space about that girl...

listen and you'll see..

Better late than never! Finally downloaded my iphone pictures.

Pat Travers was jamming out on Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo at the Babicz booth until Rick Derringer finally came over and had a good laugh.

Taylor guitars were demoing their cool new solid bodies with some really cool pedals (red side LED is on) ;)

http://www.analogman.com/graphics/taylor-kotcompdemo.jpg

Seymour Duncan opened the moe. show down the road from NAMM and sat in with them early in the set

http://www.analogman.com/graphics/seymourmoenamm08.jpg

That same night Marc Ford was playing at the Hilton for Orange Amps anniversary, so I was pretty busy.
