I'm having a 1 piece Black Limba body being built by one of our wonderful Gearpagers (Thanks Wendell!).

Specs as followed:
Tele shaped
Belly cut
Forearm cut
dual humbuckers

I'm torn between a few wood choices for the neck, in order of preference:

Black Limba with a Macassar Ebony board
Bubinga with a Macassar Ebony board
Wenge with a Macassar Ebony board
Maple with a Brazilian Rosewood board

I'm looking for a good balance between smooth lead tones and cutting rhythms. 90's to modern metal tones.

Any insight would be welcomed.

Thanks!

Limba w/ macassar ebony is one of my favorite combos. It's slightly brighter than mahogany but still retains the warmth. I just completed a guitar with a black limba body, quilted maple top, and black limba/macassar ebony neck. I think it works great for a modern metal or 90's sound. Sounded great through my knucklehead.

For overdriven rock and bluesy stuff and with buckers (Gary Moore, Jimmy Page, etc.) I've grown to really dig black limba (quartersawn) with a cocobolo board.
With a distortion pedal is works great for more modern stuff. Looks killer too.

I've a wenge neck w/ebony FB on one of my warmouths, solid VIP walnut body.

It's not the sound as much as the feel of wenge I love. Your hand slides so smoothly up and down.

I think you pickup choices along with your amp/pedal combo lend most of the sound shaping than the wood choices. The woods make up the beauty of your creation, the sound is handled by the output devices... unless you play unplugged... that's the only time I notice any difference.

Sounds like the best combination of sound and looks for me.

Thanks guys!
