I emailed Nik at Ceriatone and he told me the master volume on the Overtone is not a Post Phrase Inverter or PPI type. When asked if he could make the amp with a PPI he said he wasn't sure if it would work with a Dumble style amp.
Can someone explain simply:
. Is the PPI master volume the best setup for a good tone?
. Why wouldn't you be able to use a PPI in this type of amp?

Depends on who you ask. The stock Dumble, which the Ceria Overtone is based on, did NOT use a PPI master volume and many people seem to like those amps alot. One of the main advantages of some of the PPI masters is that when you turn them all the way up it is as if the master is not there. However, in a Dumble having the master all the way up so its not there is not really the purpose.

Yes, you can use a PPI master in this type of amp. However, part of the 'Dumble' sound is attributed to pre-phase inverter master volume. If you change the master volume to a PPI master volume then you would be significantly changing one of the characteristics of Dumble type amps.
