Ok. I'm lying. It's not really finished. But it's **ALMOST** finished! I just have to mount it in its cabinet.

But I need to know from you guys whether to mount it in the green cab or in the red cab.

So what's it gonna be?

Rik's been in touch - I'll hopefully get to try it out while it's in the area and give some initial impressions as well. I plan on bringing a few cabs to try. Should be good times! :AOK

One question I have since the photo is not clear - can it take 4, 8, and 16 ohm cabs?

That one is wired for 8 Ohms only. The ones with MM OTs have an impedance selector for 4/8/16.

Got to play the little green wonder tonight - really sounded great with my Tele and Rik's crazy tiger striped humbucker guitar. We tried it through a Rik's Splawn 2X12 (good) and my Two-Rock 1X12 (GREAT!). Really a great amp for someone looking for fantastic overdrive tones at non gig volumes. And cleans up incredibly well with the guitar volume control. I was impressed. :AOK:AOK

And thanks for the hospitality Rik - that Elmwood of yours ROCKS! :dude

Rik

The green wonder is VERY impresive! I didn't get to record it as my broken foot and moving things just didnt allow it. :(

The impression, Amazing! The tone was like a large wattage amp at the bedroom volume just as advertised! Harmonic content and the amps character was right inline with the big dog amps! Roll off the volume on the guitar and it cleans up and keeps tone. Roll on it and the wreckified comes on! I was very impressed how the character of the amp kept true to the design.

The 2x12 OS sealed cab was a good sound most stright forward. The 1x12 semi open back really gave the amp some character in the mids.

What was impressive was the Tele Mprvise brought over. His guitar just opened up the amp and sounded much better than my mahogany body super strat. I am short on time right now and need to head out to therapy for the ol foot.

S2amps has a winner here with the bedroom amps.

Mprvise, My pleasure! let"s do it again soon! I gotta play the tele again!

Steven,

What "options" does the prototype have? Is it the stock or MM transformers and choke?

And for those that have tried it, can it do this type of harmonic feedback:

I know I have a great bedroom amp coming. I didn't think this was possible!

its a a nice cab and speaker! and in a oval semi open back. it really was a better sound than the 2x12 sealed cab. In my opinion. It was brighter and warm. Perfect for this amp. I have yet to try my other cabs. one day soon!! one day!

Do you have a cab yet, or are you getting one with the amp. I am thinking of getting a matching empty cab.

Whatcha gonna name her?

Anna. The name comes from a train wreck which occurred in Anna, TX (up the road from you) on 3/11/1885. It is suspected to have been caused by an encounter with a tornado. Five cars were derailed. While no one was killed, it was no doubt a wild ride. The name seems to capture all the elements, yes?

Oh, that's not really what I'm worried about. My apt with my sleeping infant isn't the place to put even a bedroom amp through its paces. That and I only have one cab so I'm wondering if there's someone in the north florida area with a few cabs who'd like to take a whack at this thing.

I'm not sure if halfsies is 80's slang or what....it's just lame and I'm sad that it's part of my vernacular.

Hey Dayn, what did ya think? :stir :D

SO....

I must say that this little guy sounds REALLY good! I have been able to try it with a LP jr., 64 Fender Duo-Sonic, 2 Parker Fly's (Deluxe and Classic), a PRS hollowbody, and a 60's Teisco. My conclusion...this amp loves mahogany guitars and humbuckers! Single coils sound good as well but the hum is annoying when cranked up.

I was playing it through a Marshall 1965b 4x10 cab first with original G10L-35's and then swapped out for 4 brand new Celestion Greenback 10's. The GB's are WAY better and really bring out that sweet midrange in this amp.

I dug the controlled feedback, clean to mean, harmonic detail...all of the things that you would expect in a larger (louder!) TW amp. There is a post-gain feature to help with clean headroom but I never turned it back as with the 4x10 there was PLENTY of volume and therefore clean headroom when rolled back the volume knob. Loud enough to gig with and these are 95 db speakers!

The powerscaling does bring the volume down and it does still sound good and have some of the feel, but I have found that for me good tone is also about volume (SPL) so when turned way down the power-scaling just doesn't do it for me.

I would consider ordering it without the power scaling and post gain as I wouldn't use them, and with a 1x12 or 1x10 cab or combo with an inefficient greenback. That would be perfect for home use and then use a larger cab if you want to play small clubs.

Just downright fun amplifier!

Who is next in line?....

I am loving production model #1! This amp has the sound and feel I never expected in a low wattage, home friendly amp. Expect a full review soon.

dayn, I have to disagree on the post gain. I find that to seriously add versatility. The amp cleans up very nice with the guitar volume knob, but my comment to Steven was that I wish the post gain knob was also on my guitar!

My Two Rock 1x12 with TR 12-65 is amazing with this amp. IMHO, much better than my GB loaded Sovereign which is dark by comparison. Many thanks to mprvise and Rik for their advice on speakers and cabs!

Hey Mudslide and KWK13 -

A couple people have pm'd me this morning about the amp and the "next on the list..." list. I don't think at this point there is a hard and fast list still working but I know that there was some interest for it to go to the Bay Area / Nor Cal vicinity after it leaves me. It might make sense to just keep it moving south on the West Coast as far as San Diego and then go back Mid West / East - this would avoid any real cross country trips. It will be here this week and there are a few TGP'ers in town that want to check it out too. I want to give it a workout and then move it on to the next participant. I know that Steve and Don have been super busy but they both got back to me re: the amp and had it forwarded with their blessings.

Yeah. I'd say that it should finish up on the West coast and make it's stops across country as you mentioned. I am in NJ, so it doesnt make sense to ship it here and then back. I'd just like to check it out at some point- doesn't have to be an emergency.

Just wanted to give a heads up that the the Test amp is here in Portland, OR....without going into a bunch of detail right now I will say that this is a super freaking cool little rig. S2 is onto to something very very cool. Immediately suprised by the size and weight of this thing - really not much bigger than a lunchbox. The biggest thing is the tone is there - bottom line. I almost think I like the semi dirty tones better than the all out drive tones - may be an ultimate little blues amp. This head in a hardwood headshell with a matched 1x12 would qualify as as the all time living room amp due to the little physical footprint - but available large sonic footprint. Make no mistake - this head through my Marshall 2061cx cab loaded with a Blue and Heritage Greenback has more than enough volume for smaller gigs, and plenty of volume if ever mic'd. I've not run any pedals into it yet, like that it has a loop and line out. Overall my impression is that its a winnner. It will be here in Portland for a bit then off to Steve Snider in Monterey, CA. continuing its West Coast Summer Vacation. If any Portland guys that I don't know about on here want to check it out, just get in touch and we can hook up.

If any Portland guys that I don't know about on here want to check it out, just get in touch and we can hook up.
Is this little gem still in the area?

If so, are you interested in meeting at Geraldi's and giving it a spin?

I've admired Steven Scott's amps from afar for some time and would love to check one out first hand.

Cheers, -Dana

Got your p.m. Dana - no problem whatsoever - thats why it's here ;)

Give me a call to hook up. BTW - Dan is planning another amp fest soon.

Also - I want / need to say that after spending some more quality time with this little rig I'm just super impressed. Very interested in what the other flavors of this mini - series sound like.
Big cheers to Steve and S2 :BEER

S2amps, how does the tone on the M4 compare with my M3?

Rik

Trucks,

I too, look forward to the amp and the differences. I am thinking it maybe be gained anywhere from the slo 100 hot/wild overdrive to a Gov Mule thing.

I have my custom 1x12 semi openback cab built about ready, Just needs speaker mounting holes drilled and cloth added to the front baffle. I should have it completed this week. (awaiting Marshall black grill cloth)

I have 5 different speakers ready to try sitting here in boxes.

Scumback Silver Alnico
Scumback H75-16HP
Tone tubby hemp cone alnico
Celestion H30
Celestion V30

I am betting the Scumback H-75 will be the one. I am also thinking I want to add a Scumback M-75 to the list.

OH.. where is the little Wreckified?!! any new reviews?!

Rik,

Your M4 is almost ready. I just need to finish installing the power scaling and burn it in.

Anyone have any idea where the Wreck prototype ended up?

Heh.

I'll take some pics tonight provided it isn't still raining.

I finished the wiring last night and it will have burned in for 24 hours by the time I get home tonight. All that's left is to make sure the -FB is where I want it, to make sure it passes the tone test, and to mount it up in the cabinet.

^ Funny you should mention it...

I finished tweaking it this evening and will mount it up and ship it out by Thursday. I will certainly post some pics for you guys before I box it up.

How's your Wrecktified working out for you?

Thanks! I am looking forward to seeing it and hearing a report from Rik.

My Wrecktified is incredible. I expected my R9 to love it (it does!), but the Johnny A sounds glorious through it as well. The lead tones are wonderful, but the jangle was an unexpected bonus. The post gain control makes the amp extremely versatile. The scaling does a great job and the amp always sounds big compared to the actual volume (to me, no attenuator has that quality). I'm very happy with it!

Trucks!

When I had the demo Wrecktified, I was amazed by the jangle.. and how could you get that type of response at a low volume plus the large tone feel.

I can't wait to the see the amp as well! awesome s2amps! I always look forward to pictures! Thanks!

I hope it looks good with my color choices! :worried
