I am thinking about picking up a bad cat cub 2 and am curious if this has enough gain to play hard rock without any pedals. Thanks for any input

Hello,
No, the Cub is not going to give you what you are looking for. You'll need a Hot Cat or Lynx.

I agree w/ Cranknfrank, I had the Cub, and it won't give you enough gain for hard rock w/o pedals.
Even with pedals it is not the best Bad Cat for what you are looking for.

The Cub will take you into classic rock / hard rock territory with the right pedal, probably leaning more towards classic crunch rock. I tested it with the Barber Direct Drive, and it did a good job for that.

Tone Cat is another good alternative. Loud and heavy as hell, but killer tones.
