Compression and EQ: know what they are, don't know how to use them

So I don't know how to use EQ and compression on acoustic guitar, vocals, bass and drums.

I have my tracks, but I have no idea where to start adding EQ and compression to the mix.

Can settings you guys can give me? I'm using Logic 8 express.
