Hi,

Those of you who have followed me and encouraged me here at TGP the last few years know that I like to try different styles but also that I always seem to come back once in a while to the LC style with a bit of Steely Dan thrown in.

This tune is in that general direction but maybe not as definite as in my recent past. My problem with this tune is that I had a very time setting a suitable mood for the solo and I must admit being not too happy it.

I am however happy with the tone. It's my Edwards 335 clone with SD pups through my Ethos and the Boss GS-10 direct to my soundcard.

The tune "Afternoon Meeting" is here:
http://lorenlingren.com/mats/Afternoon%20Meeting%20080305.mp3

I hope there will be a number of you who download this BT and post your versions because I would like some other perspectives on this (Scott, Woody, Tag, etc). The BT is here:
http://lorenlingren.com/mats/Afternoon%20Meeting%20BT%20080305.mp3

Comments are welcome. Especially on the mix since I'm still getting used to my new studio monitors.

Cheers,

Mats N

Lovely tune Mats, and I mean the melody too not just the background. Some cool playing there with well thought out lines.

Hey Mats,

I really enjoyed that in every way. Beautiful! I wish the guitar were just about .5 dB hotter, but it still sings so nicely as is.

Hi,

Thanks very much for your comments. Truly appreciated.

John C - Thanks for the mix comment. A previous mix had the guitar a bit hotter in the mix so I turned it down but that may have been a mistake. :o

It tells me I should really get off my lazy horse and get more into automating my tracks to make them sit better in the overall soundscape.

Beautiful Matt. Very Larry- full of soul and tasty.
Scrumptious

(I'm holding off on all clips until a new amp arrives next week - but this sounds like a corker of a BT to test it out on. :AOK)

Hi Woody,

As a non-English speaker I still somewhat pride myself on my English vocabulary but I must admit to having to look up "scrumptious". Thanks!

New amp? You've got a Skrydsrup and a Two Rock and you still need a new amp? Please spill the beans!

Ah...nice and relaxed, calm before going to the madness that is Frankfurt??
Warm sweet tones, and that touch again!
Love the backer.....must haul out one of my more mellow drives for this one!

Hehee,

No your right - I don't 'need' a new amp of course. But............if things work out the way I hope tonally, then my other amps will be sold off and I'll keep one Two Rock (Kimock) and maybe the Skrydstrup.... believe me I'm at the end of of tone chasing now - this is last years 'must have'.

all will be revealed soon.............;)

Could I please ask you to define the truth and validity of this statement to my wife. :D

Hi Niels,

I'm glad you noticed the fact that I'm at least trying to play with a touch. :D

Regarding Frankfurt, could you please tell me the booth number you guys will have and tell Sören I will be stopping by to say hello?

Hi Jack,

Thank you!
Now all that's left is to acquire some of your wonderful chops and sense of phrasing.

I don't know what a Boss GS-10 is, but if that's direct to the PC, it sounds great!

Great tune and tone

I searched the web for a tune called "afternoon meeting" to no avail because I thought it was a classic tune ! The tune sounds like larry, steely, mcdonald soup !

I like the unpredictable changes in there

Cool melodic playing, I just want to hear you take a few more chances, sounds like your playing it way safe

It happens to me when I play over BT's, too, so it must go with the territory

Hi Joe,

Yes that was recorded direct to PC using a Boss GS-10 digital amp modeler and multi effects unit. I always use it in the studio. On it's own or with my analog pedalboard in front of it.

Hi yZe,

Your soup recipe was spot on regarding my influences in this style.

Regarding me taking more chances, believe me when I say that within my knowledge of playing the guitar I did take a lot of chances here. :D
I think I know what you mean and I would really like to do that but that, unfortunately, is beyond my musical limits.

About your comment about playing to a BT, this is my original tune so to me this is not a BT. This is unfortunately the boundary of my musical ability. I'm looking for ways to expand but yet to no avail.

Hi Major,

I have looked all over the pedal and see no sign of the M1 label anywhere. Haven't looked inside though. So I think it's the original classic model.

Really reminds me of the tone, style and phrasing of songs by Steeley Dan. Very good.
