Yeah, I'm no RF but this backing track sure helps (stole it from here). As usual, I played this without the recorder and had a really great run, which I could not repeat with the recorder on - why does that always happen?
Anyway, this is the Grosh Bent Top Custom set to the Bridge humbucker going straight in to the Mazerati GT. I have the Airbrake set to bedroom level (full up though) and that's plugged in to the 1x12 Z Convertible cab (back closed, V30). Delays and compression added in Pro Tools.
This is over four minutes of self-indulgent wanking, so you've been warned. :)

Very nice, both the tone and the playing. After owning and loving a Dr. Z Route 66, his other amps were just not doing it for me. Then I purchased a Stingray head and it's become my favorite clean tone. Some killer overdrive on this Mazerati GT.....I'm going to have to test drive one.
Thanks,
Rick

Thanks. The Mazerati GT is capable of more gain than any of his other amps from what I can tell. I have an SRZ-65 here and the GT has more gain and is more articulate.

How would the Mazerati GT work with a 1x12 loaded with a Celestion Gold? Would it clean up enough to play some Paisley??

It sounds pretty good through the Gold, but it's a bit bright. Cleans up real nice though. For a Gold I think what you want is either a ported or closed back to augment the bottom end. I haven't tested that theory here though - two of my Golds are in a THD 2x12 and the other one is in the box waiting for me to decide what to do with it. I bought it for my 1x12 Z Convertible cab, but I'm liking that cab just fine with the V30 it came with (which is what I used for this recording).

Wow, I'm shocked that the tone is that nice with the airbrake on the upper bedroom setting. That was great and thanks for doing it. As I'd never play that low though , any chance on posting some clips without the Airbrake , or just on the 1st or 2nd setting? Thanks again for posting this as it sounded really nice! Eric

Well it sounds pretty much the same only a LOT louder. Please see http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=267896 for more info about why I say that. :)

Thanks, my experience is very different. When the Z Airbrakes came out , Perry Roper leant me his . That was a REALLY nice gesture , as he knew I really disliked the other attenuators I'd owned. I liked the Airbrake a lot actually with the few amps I tried it with! I forget exactly which ones as it was quite awhile ago , but there was an Orange or120 , a few of my Marshalls, etc. But attenuated down with any of them , drastically changes the sound and feel (in the room while I'm playing) . I won't contest anyone else's findings at all ,and also , I surely won't contest anyone's findings as to how attenuated amps translate to a recorded medium. But for me as a guitarist, sound changes a good deal. Anyway, thanks for posting these clips at the lo-volume. They sound great , as do a few of the Z Galaxy clips I've heard.. Tasty toneage!

very nice. A little thick in the low mids as is characteristic of the Z-Tone but that's just being ultra critical. It's a great sound and great playing too

Thanks! I think if I was playing through something a little flatter like a Tone Tubby that mid spike might be tamed a bit. I'll have to try that here...

Ah...I just noticed you were running through a Vintage 30. Bad choice for any of the Z amps IMO. Odd that he uses that speaker so often. I'd love to hear it through an Emi RW&B

I'm going to try a few different speakers here - I have a Weber ceramic Blue Dog that I think will sound pretty good with this amp. I have the Z-Best, and I have some Alnico Golds that I've already tried and they seem a bit bright for the GT. I'd like to try my Tone Tubby as well.

try an open back cab with an emi rw&b speaker in it. They are great speakers that have a lot of sizzle but still sound good for creamy dumble stuff. Lots of speakers with sizzle can't do the smooth overdrive...

I'm seriously loving this tone! It would be a great choice along side a Stingray in a multi-amp setup. I'd like to hear it with a Red White & Blue as well. I have an old open-back Z cab with a Celestion G12H-100......I have to test drive this amp thru that cab. Great clip!
Thanks,
Rick

Thanks Rick. Funny you mention that idea - I've been gigging the Mazerati GT as my lead amp on top of a Z Stingray head for cleans. Each driving a Celestion Alnico Gold in a 2x12 THD cab wired stereo. Two amps, one amp footprint. Works great! But I think I'll try a little bit darker speaker than the Gold for the Mazerati GT next time, as the Gold is a bit on the bright side for the GT. Funny it doesn't seem bright for the Stingray though. :) Anyway, thanks for your kind words.

Hi Steve, how does the GT do for slightly dirty rhythms?

Well I think it does pretty well - as you lower your guitar's volume the GT cleans up, so you can dial in however much crunch you want right from there. The distortion is very articulate so you get to hear each string when you're playing chords, but of course everyone hears something different in this area. YMMV just because of that. You might want to have a listen to the slide clip I did, just because there are a few places in there where you can hear some chords happening, and the GT's volume was set quite a lot lower for that clip.
