Hey guys, I am retubing the Fargen and noticed that one of my 12ax7's is stuck...I have retubed several amps of mine and never had this problem...Is there a tip or trick someone can recommend?

The Sovtek 12AX7's in my Rivera Chubster seemed like the were glued in! Of coarse they weren't but man what a grip they had in the sockets. I had to grab, pull and wiggle as hard as I could to get each one out! Bob

I had a heck of a time with EH12AY7's also, You feel like you might crush them trying to get them out. Something New Sensor is notorious for I guess.

A little advice from someone that almost cut the end of his finger off removing a stuck light bulb, use a piece of leather or similar to grip with.

You could open the amp up and use the blunt end of something like a chop stick to push down on the key as you wiggle the tube.

12AX7's don't have a key.

Use one of those round rubber things they sell to open jars with.

Yep, those work really well. Try to pull straight if at all possible, don't wiggle it.

Who would've thought but the same tool I use for lifting IC chips out of their sockets does a great job for preamp tubes as well.:messedup

The new production Tung Sol 12ax7's have a larger bottle size and seem to get stuck in different tube shield bases.
