Where is the "right" place to put the "front" strap button? I find I prefer to play standing up. I'll putting them on a Westerly, RI, Guild F30 and a Larrivee OM60 (if that helps). Thanks!

I like them on the heel. Had on put on my Larrivee OM and the luthier put that one on the underside (treble) side of the neck around the corner from the heel. Thats okay too...
I don't like them on the headstock.

Frets.com is a great site for luthier info. Check this link for strap button tips.

I prefer to install straight into the heel, but Frets.com doesn't recommend this as the guitar tends to tip.

Drive-south thats a great link.
Been wanting to put a strap button on my collings but haven't done it because I was unsure of best placement. Thanks
^Check Collings website for guidance. Always the treble side of the neck heel, FMM.

Or the ebsite for each guitar manufactuerer. Some companies - Martin for example, require that the strap button be installed by a licensed tech in the approved location or the warranty is void. This was the case for my HD-28. The approved location was the treble side of the heel.

right. treble side of the heel for martin-style sharp-edged neck heels, and centered up on the middle of the heel for gibson-style round heels (not in the heel cap, which will make it hang funny and possibly not fit in the case.)

Right. For some reason I thought the OP was asking about a Collings.
