View Full Version : Okay, here's a REAL super dumb-ass question...

This one's puzzled me for years; If heat rises, why do Fender, Mesa Boogie, et al, all put their valves in upside-down?

Surely it makes more sense to do it the Marshall way? No?

Fender does it because they could use the same chassis design in the heads and combos without alteration. The front of the Fender chassis is tilted back at what, 22 degrees? Most things Fender built back in the day performed double duty.

With Marshalls, they had different sized chassis' for their heads and combos (although they have had the same chassis in their "top loaders", I'd have to look again to be sure).

As for Mesa, who can tell? They were originally a modded-Fender setup, so R.S. may have just carried it over.

Because Marshall had a better idea. They were the first "boutique" amp company. Also if you had a stack and were kinda short you could reach your controls a little easier.

In a confined space (which essentially all the amps listed are) there is less of a difference heat wise with the tubes pointed up or down than you might think.

I've always wondered, if heat rises why is there snow at the top of the mountain?

Ah, I can answer that. Mountains are old (hills, for instance, must be younger because they're smaller) so that's not actually snow you can see - it's just the mountains going grey. My father told me that when I was a boy and you're not going to tell me he was lying - are you?

That must be why I'm going grey faster than usual, I'm pretty tall.

Theres reverse logic for ya.

And I'm bald because I'm taller than my hair.
