I play really heavy metal. I've got a pretty killer rig and the pickup I'm using is a Dimarzio Evolution. It was a huge leap over the previous stock pickup. However, I keep thinking that I should go into active pickups to get even heavier but still retain some clarity. I'm using a ton of gain. It's not really possible to "try" pickups since I have to install them and can't return. So tell me.. will I notice a massive difference?

EMG's are more compressed with more gain and less mids.
If thats what you're after compared to the EVO, then they're your solution.

emgs have a quicker pick attack, have a nice amount of compression, and tight lows. i love them for metal.
i like the emg 81 in most guitars but if the guitar is really bright then i will use a emg 85 since it sounds warmer and thicker.

I'd get Seymour Duncan Blackouts over EMGs. Heard great things about those and I like that they have two switchable attitudes. Really a cool design.

i also have some blackouts, i like them too but in the end i like my emgs better, the blackouts have more gain and feel more like a passive and have a slight passive character to them.

I'm luvin' life with my EMGs. The punch that was missing with my Evo 2 is there now... and I'm still in the 9 volt world.

That's a great looking guitar there! I bet the EMGs sound great in it.

Thanks, GeoDooD. The bonus is the great clean sounds I also get out of this thing. The middle position SA is outstanding. Very, very versatile. Its hard to hold back when this thing gets cranked up...
PS: My EMG DG-20s for my MIM Strat should be here Monday. Really psyched!

Thanks man, it's a sweet guitar. I realized I need to go back and edit that page and add info about the Warmoth neck itself :P
